I think cpu is fried or the mobo is

couple of day ago, i was using my pc and all the sudden the monitor goes black and the speakers gave wired noise. So i Immediately shut off the computer. Then my sister came in the room and turned on the computer for like 10 minutes, then she calls me and tells me that the computer doesn't work.Then i took the computer apart, there was a short between the backplate on the board and the case (since the backplate is metal), so i took the cpu and mobo and placed them on cardboard to try to turn it on, but nothing, no power. The fan on the cpu and on the case turn on for a split of a second when i connect the power supply to the mobo, but when i press the power button on the case, there is nothing. Which part is fried, the mobo or cpu. thx

it's not the power supply because I hoked it up to another computer.
