Wait so with AT&T you don't have to buy a data plan if you don't want it? With Verizon you have to have it no matter what with a smart phone.
lol, that's what the OP is saying, that you DO have to buy one with a smartphone. o_O

My god, are you retarded? I never STOLE anything. I used their network the same way I would have used it if I'd had a dumb phone, and I was billed the same way. If I wanted data I had to bet at home or somewhere else where I could use Wi-Fi.

Ichy: If you havent added a data plan yet or sign a new contract AND had the smartphone exclusion on your bill, I would call ATT and have them reinstate the Data Exclusion (do this while on your 3GS though).

I switched smartphones (not buying subsidized from Att) a few times and never had a problem. But I never changed sims.

Good luck!

That sucks. They made me sign up for an unlimited texting plan when I upgraded a few weeks ago. Apparantly they don't have regular texting plans anymore.

As far as I can tell the grandfathered in data plan exclusion never applied to iPhones. I guess I just got lucky that no one ever noticed.

Ouch, you're probably right. I have never switched to an iPhone (only Android phones).

That sucks!

I have no problems with ATT, but hate being forced to sign up for data when you're bringing in your own phone or not buying a subsidized smartphone.

I don't know much about this shenanigans...I sort of saw this whole thing as a "the only winning move is to not play" scenario. Can you not get another dumb phone/dump phone sim card and perform the cut down correctly this time?
