I think Amazon sent me soap from a cult.

I ordered some castille soap; 'Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap". The bottle is covered with tiny writing, here's a sample:

"8TH. More good is caused by evil than by good, do what's right! Enlarge the positive! Replace the negative with the Moral ABC's ALL-ONE-GOD-FAITH, that lightning-like unites the Human race! FOR WE'RE ALL ONE OR NONE! "LISTEN CHILDREN ETERNAL FATHER ETERNALLY ONE!"

So I did a little research and found this:

link

Bronner is an 85-year old (as of 1993) German immigrant who hangs out in Escondido, California. (July 11, 2010 update: Emanuel Bronner died March 7, 1997 in Escondido at age 89.) He's not an MD or strictly speaking a rabbi, but claims he's got the equivalent of a PhD in chemistry, which I guess makes him a master chemist. He's also not your average soap maker. Whereas Messrs. Procter and Gamble dream (well, dreamt) of enzymes and long-chain fatty acids, Bronner dreams of world peace.

Bronner wants to convince mankind of the virtues of the "All-One-God-Faith," which, together with the "Moral ABC," his answer to the Ten Commandments, will unite the human race. The details of this can be a bit hard to follow. For example: "Replace half-true Socialist-fluoride poison & tax-slavery with full-truth, work-speech-press & profitsharing Socialaction! All-One! So, help build 4 billion Hannibal wind-power plants, charging 96 billion battery-banks, powering every car-factory-farm-home-monorail & pump, watering Babylon-roof-gardens & 800 billion Israel-Milorganite fruit trees, guarded by Swiss 6000 year Universal Military Training," etc.

Does anyone else use this guy's stuff, and if so do you have any ramblings on your bottles?

edit: Almost out now...re-ordered peppermint. Using it as a shampoo & soap it lasted almost 2.5 months, for 10 bucks. Not bad

I've been using that soap for years now. Very clean ingredients. I'm surprised it's so cheap for how concentrated it is. I use it for everything - deodorant, soap, shampoo, even toothpaste and laundry detergent.

I have a bottle of it too actually. I can't imagine using it as tooth paste. I use it as body wash occasionally.

Toothpaste, deodorant, aphrodisiac, Dr. Bronner's pure castile soap does it all!

We used to use it all the time. Nothing like showering with Dr. Bronner's peppermint soap on a hot Summer day. Stuff is kind of expensive though.

May try the peppermint next; have the citrus now. It's so concentrated, I'm shocked. My hair feels great after using it as shampoo, clean, but not dry or stripped

Yes and yes. It's kind of amusing to read, but the guy is clearly a little nutty. The harmless kind of nutty, mind.

Oh, and I knew EXACTLY what this thread was going to be about when I read the title.
