I Think A FPS Needs Either Vehicles Or Doors To Be Good

If a FPS doesn't have vehicles then it better have doors.

If a FPS doesn't have doors then it better have vehicles.

The first FPS with both doors and air/land/sea vehicles is Arma 2.

If you played tactical shooters such as the early rainbow six and SWAT games you would know how much doors change the gameplay.

Define "doors". The original Unreal Tournament had doors. Most doors you just approach to open; at least one (in the level shared in the free demo IIRC) you had to shoot to open. They slide open rather than pivoting on hinges, but I consider them doors.

UT 2004 had air and land (and space) vehicles, and sea-capable hovercraft (mantas). I don't recall if it had doors, but I think it must have had a few.

I meant doors like in the early rainbow six and SWAT games, like I already said.

Not automatic doors like in grocery stores and startrek.

These types of doors are actually pretty hard to implement which is why games like the early GTA games didn't have doors but highlighted areas that "teleported" you inside the building.

The video below explains why a lot of games don't have doors:

(I just wanted to talk about doors in video games some more.)

Imagine if someone told you "I have 50 doors in my house", you would be like "WOW! you must live in a gigantic mansion!"

Now imagine if someone told you "I only have 1 door in my house", you would be like "You must live in a tiny shack in the middle of nowhere! I feel sorry for you."

Doors creates a very "Urban" environment.

Doors also change the gameplay, you can do things such as "coordinated attacks", you and your partner can do things such as "in 3 seconds we're going to charge in at the same time", you can't really do stuff like that without doors. Without doors the gameplay is all about randomly running and gunning the whole time.

Doors also gives you the ability to "hide", like in Minecraft or a zombie/survival game you can close the door and the zombie or beast won't be able to kill you.

The reason doors are important is because doors "EXIST"! If you're trying to make a video game that's realistic, you need to include everything that exists.

You ever heard of the term "In-doors"? You can't make a "In-door" environment without doors!
