I test drove a Ford 500 today.

i test drove a Ford 500 today. went to the dealership with the intention of trading in our Windstar for a Freestyle, but the freestyle's are few and far between. they did have 7 500's in stock tho.

it rides pretty well, as would be expected with a CVT there are no surges, no real torque curve feel, but it accelerates reasonably for a car it's size.

overall, the car's fit and finish seemed pretty good, looks were mediocre, but for a car as big as is on the inside drives a lot smaller.

i think at $22,795 (sticker) it's a pretty good deal.

it's funny,

i've always bought fords, my dad's second car in the US was a Ford Maverick and then he bought a string of fords, LTDs, Pintos, LTD wagons, I got the pinto as my first car at 16.

since adulthood i've only bough domestic, mostly fords, the only car i've ever purchased that's not a ford is my current Olds Intrigue. my wife is in the Ford Windstar.

Why not add some variety? The only Ford that I've ever liked is the Mustang..

that's why i bought the Olds. 🙂

but to be honest, right now, the Ford 500 fits our needs pretty well. it's VERY roomy without being too large on the exterior. it performs reasonably. the only decision i really have to make is whether to go with the 6 speed auto or the cvt. the 6speed actually gets better gas mileage than the cvt.

<---works for ford (subsidiary actually). yes, i'm ashamed. lousy job, hopefully they promote me soon. Least i get the A-plan, not that I want to buy any of their vehicles. maybe mustang for resale..?

how much would the ford 500 be on the A-plan.

Not sure, i think I have to get a pin # then go to a participating dealer (as not all dealers participate). Its about 4% under invoice, which might be good for hot models, but not so good for ones with incentives.
Thought about resale, but I'm not going to abuse it, since I'll lose not only my A plan but also discounts for the family.

that's cool. but it gives me a mark to shoot for.

if i can get invoice or 1% below, i'll be happy.

If you are planning on getting one I would stay away from the CVT, they had to stop production on the 500s once because of problems with them.

At least if you get one with the CVT (I'd be very tempted) buy an extended warranty to cover the engine & drivetrain.

That's a lot of car to move around with a CVT.

Excellent contribution jackass

You should still try out the Freestyle just in case.

i just got a quote from a local dealer, email.

about $1,800 off MSRP for a Ford Freestyle SEL AWD.

$27k for a AWD vehicle.

i'm definitely interested.

I'm with you Platinum. My parents got their first car as ford, and it was based on the fact that had my dad drove an Ecoline for work when it had 175k miles on it. When the place closed down it had 250k. Funny thing is...no one ever changed the oil...😕

We bought 4 fords in our life. None of them ever gave us a problem. We have one mustang and the rest were sold or totaled. We now have a chyrsler and a GM. The GM gave us a few serious problems but no everything is ok. The plymouth nothing really. We had a camry once. Gave us too many problems so we got rid of it.

I guess we've had pretty good luck with fords.

I'd stick with the six speed.

BTW-Don't let murmurings of herd that is ATOT dissuade you.

not a chance, i've been a ford diehard my entire life. why would i let a bunch of kids on atot change my mind about that?

nothing against ford... but you know for $400 you can have:

more front shoulder/head room
47 more horses
39 more ft-lbs of torque
smaller turning radius
similar gas milage
more fun to drive, more passing power, higher resell value, better styling...

the only thing that you'll lose is the 21cubic feet of trunk space in the ford and its NEW CVT gear box... how reliable is it? nobody knows...

oh what is this car, you ask?

this

throw in a couple more hundred for an auto...

why is it you guys do that? you compare MSRP's and tell me that the domestic costs the same and then turn around and tell me the import has better resale value.

guess what, i can price reduction off msrp with a ford that i probably can't get with the nissan.

so in all fairness if you want to compare Resale values, you should also compare buying price, not msrp.

so, as i said earlier, i can get a Ford Freestyle SEL AWD for $27k. give me a comparable nissan. there isn't.

the freestyle seats 7, has AWD, 6 sp auto, with extremely versatile seating arrangements.

besides. you don't know what the resale value on the 500's or the freestyles will be. i can say, having driven one, these seem to be put together a lot better than the Taurus or Windstars were.

The Ford 500 & Freestyle have te same drivetrain, CVT trans included, and are solid performers. I have driven both but I perfer the looks of the Freestyle over the 500 because I like station wagons over sedans.

I think you would be very happy with either one. I haven't heard of any problems with the vehicles from my Ford engineer friends.
