I tell you.. Ebay stupid...

Get this.. I couldn't find anything that I wanted on Amazon's site for myself to use the $20 off $99 coupon, so I just went ahead and bought a Sandisk 256 mb CF card to Ebay. Now.. This card was $79 shipped and I see it is going for at least $110 on Ebay and as high as $137.

Here's the kicker.. I almost bought a Viking card instead for $10 more because I had heard that the Viking card was faster. There is one Viking 256 mb CF card that just sold on Ebay for barely over $100.

Performance aside.. Don't you think the Viking card should fetch as least as much as the Sandisk card? It has to be about the brand recognition and nothing more.

Are these the same people that will actually go out and buy Pepsi instead of Coke because Brittney Spears is peddling it?

Side note: I had a major problem with a guy and he happened to have an AOL address. Because of this, I was wanting to ban AOL users from bidding and didn't because I had heard that this was not allowed. I'm glad that I didn't now because the majority of the people that bid and win my auctions are AOL users. Go figure..

My sister knew a guy like that....he just NEEDED a pepsi everytime he saw britney doing the commercial 😉

Ebay has a tendency to magnify the ignorance of uninformed consumers. I could swear that people often do absolutely no research on a product before bidding on it.

Ebay is a sellers market for the most part. It seems as though people there are intent on "Winning" the auction. I sold a 2yr old motherboard for more than what I paid for it new when I bought it. It was an AT powered BX Board. Someone could have bought an ATX case and board for the price they paid to use the AT board in their old case. Oh well, they were happy and I was surely happy.

yeah.. i have seen lots of items sold for more than retail!

i guess people prefer to bid on stuff... rather than drive to a few stores to check prices..

on the other hand....some folks may not live near a big city.

Yeah ebay buyers do seem uninformed, or many of them just like the thrill of winning the auction I guess

read somewhere that some ebayer actually bought a pile of dust collected from a ventilation system...

Brand. SanDisk must have more brand recognition to consumers than Viking. After all, SanDisk is sold at BB, CC, Target, Wal-Mart, etc.

And the added irony is that Viking is probably the fastest and SanDisk is probably the slowest.

Exactly! That's my point. I'm certainly glad that I didn't pay the extra $10 and get the better cf card now. When looking for stuff to Ebay, you can't ever assume that if it's good, it's going to sell well. It's all about brand recognition and I never got it until now because I've always been one to look past the advertising and marketing. Apparently, there are a lot of people that aren't like me though.

sometimes its true...when an auction is approaching the close time, and you realized you get outbidded, you usually will bid the price that is higher than what you wanted to originally

Yeah I used the Amazon coupon to buy a Viking 256mb card for my new Canon G2. $89 shipped.

Of course, it said "Ships within one business day", and I look at my order and it says it will ship on the 22nd.

Ack.

I dont even drink soda but i buy pepsi.

I use ebay as a giant garage sale, not a place where I try and find good deals on new merchandise. Most of my search queries include the words, "antique", "vintage", or "old".
