I tell my kids all the time that shots don't hurt.....

Well guess what, I lied! They friggin hurt, I had to get two needles today, in order to be able to do clinical work for my CNA course. And Tetanus/Diptheria shots hurt, my poor arm is now bruised.

A lot depends on the skill of the person delivering the shot, where it is given (in the muscle or between), & how you react (ie tense vs not).

I had allergy shots for years, & some nurses could consistently do well & some would make me swell from my elbow halfway up my arm.

I always knew shots hurt when I was a kid, I just kept it up until they gave me a lollypop.

You know which shots hurt? The meningitas shot! Arrrgh, I was like "eh, another typical shot". And then the pain juice starts oozing in from the needle making your arm sore for several days.

I don't mind getting needles really... now when they tell me they are gonna take some blood thats a different story. They gotta stick the needle in a more sensitive area, then they gotta stick the tube on there and start sucking, then they gotta take the tube off and stick another one on there. Not a chance they can hold the damn needle perfectly still while doing all of this. gah i hate giving blood.

If you think a meningitis shot hurts, try a meningitis test (ie, a spinal tap). I had one of those when I was about five. Before that I was fine with shots, after that I've done everything on earth possible to avoid shots. Yup, traumatized for life.
