I take back all the nice things I said about autotrader.com

Let me know if I'm being unreasonable here...

First off, I AM very happy with their service.

However, ONE WEEK AGO I paid $70 to list my ad with them. I go to their website, and they are offering a "holiday special" of $15 for the exact same service I purchased.

Now, I sent them a very nice email and I was like "look, I understand that it's a holiday special, etc, but my ad was only in there for SIX DAYS before I saw that the price got cut by 70%. Could I at least get you to split the difference?"

They sent back an equally polite "no."

Am I asking too much???

Yes you are asking too much. You were fine paying what you did originally, now you're not fine. Sorry man, thems the breaks

Guess so

You win 'em and you lose 'em. Maybe next time you'll be one of the lucky ones who gets in on the discounted price. Nothing you can do about it but let it go.

Really? To me, this seems a bit much. If the price dropped by $5, or $10, or $15, I wouldn't even think of asking. If we were talking about normal changes in pricing models, I wouldn't be asking.

BUT $70 dropped down to $15???? That is freakin absurd.

I know a guy who purchased the Apple iBook about 2 days before they announced the G4 iBook... how much does that suck? 🙂

but..but...argghghhhh!!!

(It is SO eating me up.... and I have to say, I really do understand that they can't expected to go change the price EVERYONE paid, etc, etc, etc... but seriously now....$15.... I'm feeling like I got completely ripped off in the first place!! [actually I did feel that way when I coughed up the $70, but there aren't a lot of alternatives] )

Sounds equally sucky, either way he's still left with an apple laptop. 😀

You win some, you lose some. It is impossible to see into the future and know what sales are coming up.

Its no use crying over spilt milk, suck it up and move on 🙂

Get over yourself.

They ran a promotion to increase holiday business. You posted your ad unknowingly. They ran their promotion unknowing that you were going to buy.

That's how things are. They are under no obligation to refund your money or part of or any of the difference. So whine and cry, because that's all you can do at this point.

What I dislike is the insane popups they have on the online site (which is only autotrader in name, it has nothing to do with the published mag)....
