STATEN ISLAND ADVANCE

The 15-year-old was suspended from Tottenville High School when she refused to give up her cell phone.

A day later, Ashley Nicole Dini disappeared.

"I just want her to come home," said her mother, Michele Dini of Annadale. "I love her. I miss her. I hope she is OK."

Ashley was reported missing to police on Saturday, according to an NYPD spokesman. Ms. Dini said her daughter left the house at 7 a.m. on Friday, and that by the time she got out of bed and ran after her, Ashley was already gone. She last spoke with her daughter later in the day. The mother believes her daughter is with a 27-year-old family acquaintance. A sophomore at Tottenville, Ashley will turn 16 on Friday. She is 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighs 145 pounds. This is not the first time her daughter has gone missing, Ms. Dini said. In September, Ashley disappeared for two days, before her mother found her at a hotel on the Island. On Oct. 14, Ashley disappeared at about 3:40 a.m. but was found just over 10 hours later, according to a police source.

The title of the article seems that there's a link to this girls disappearance and her suspension over a cell phone, possibly insinuating it was the schools fault?

Maybe I don't get the article.

However, the girl has already been missing three times since September, as recent as 2 weeks ago. She also is believed to be with a "27-year old family acquaintance." When will parents stop blaming the school systems and take responsibility for their children's actions. Try disciplining your 15 year old trashy daughter and don't let her hang around a "27 year old family acquaintance" and things like this may not happen, don't let your child bring her cell phone to school, and if she does make sure it does not come out unless its an emergency... and finally again, stop blaming other people for your own bad parenting!...

You're reading WAY too much into the article. No where does it even imply that denying cell phone usage has anything to do with this, other than it instigated her emotional resopnse.

YOU have a warped sense of reality. 😛

Where does it say "I blame the teachers and school for the disappearance of my daughter?" The suspension prompted the daughter to runaway, but I'm hardly seeing any evidence that anyone blames the school.

I agree. I don't see any connection being made in that article between the suspension and the disappearance.

Why else would they have mentioned the cell phone dispute if they aren't backhandedly blaming the school system?

(n.b. it should have been good to note that in NYC there has been an ongoing fight about cell phone usage in schools, hence my reasoning that this is, for lack of better terminology, propoganda)

Because it would make for a very confusing story if they cut that part out?

Okay, instead of a cell phone, pretend the article is talking about a shotgun.

Oh no! The school is to blame, because they took away her shotgun! Then she ran away!

to expect parents to discipline their children....is unpossible...

i don't follow, nor do i think you do?

yet, one thing has nothing to do with the other...

she would have ran away if it wasn't for the cell phone; she had in the past month and change ran away twice.

how about title the article:

"Kid missing again for third time since september, parents expect her to be with 27 year old family acquaintance?"

:disgust:

right, but don't use the school's attempt at disciplining a child by suspending them for using a cell phone as a crutch against the school's desire to outlaw cell phones. the way the article is read, it insinuates that she wouldn't have ran away if she wasn't suspended... but after reading the article, you can clearly see she is a problem child and the school really did nothing to cause her running away...

you're reading too much into it. i don't see where they are blaming the school. its just that the girl got pissed at the argument or whatever and ran away.

I'm trying to remember the reaction people had when a parent DID discipline their child... their child wouldn't testify against the child molester, so the parents had the police hold their daughter in custody. Wasn't there general uproar here about that?
