i swear computers hate me

Ok, I've been building myself a new rig as of late and have had a few problems.

Specs:

Foxconn NF4UK8AA-8EKRS
Skt 939 3200+
2x512MB 3200 Corsair Value
1x1GB 3200 PNY
160GB WD SATA
160GB WD IDE
eVGA 7900GT
500w Rosewill PSU
XP Home


During certain games I have these problems:

BF2- Crashes during loading screen(loading a map)
FEAR- Crashes During 1st level(1 minute into it)
CSS- Crashes while in game. Sometimes it will play for an hour, sometimes 14 minutes
STALKER- Freezes/Resets while walking around, random spots/time


It just froze on me while streaming/surfing the web for the first time.

I've changed platform drivers(from the most current to the ones before), no change.
I've changed video drivers: 94.20s, 93.71s, no change.

Now to also let you guys know, this is the second video card I've had this problem with. I have my first eVGA 7900GT and had these problems so I went to Best Buy and picked up a BFG 7950GT and didn't have any problems whatsoever. So I thought it was the 7900GT messing up. Well I finally got another eVGA 7900GT and took the 7950 out and threw it in. Same problems I had with the first 7900GT.


My temps according to ntune are as following:

CPU: 32C
SYSTEM: 35C
GPU: 60C(while idle in windows, isn't that too high for idle?)



What on earth is my problem?

At a glance, I would question the PSU. But, have you made the system crash doing anything other than gaming? Can you run something like Orthos Prime or the Sandra system burn in tool to see if it is gaming/GPU related or, power/heat related?

1) Did you do a clean install of Windows when you initially built this rig?

2)Do you have the most updated BIOS for the video card and Motherboard?

3)I also think it could be a heat issue...try to run games with the case open for maximum airflow?

I know what you mean, Whenever I build a new computer I always have problems with it. Funny thing is, whenever I build an intel-based system I never have problems. I don't know why. I would think that the psu is a culprit, but if it only happens during games do what you yellowbeard said.

Check your Power supply. To make sure it's not the problem.

as in buying another one and see if it still does it?

could it be me having 2x512MB and 1x1GB(I know it's not dual-channel)?

You have a strange memory setup it looks like. Are you running 2 sticks of 512 and 1 stick of 1Gb of memory? If so I would guess there could be some wierd problems with that.

I would pull out the 1Gb stick and try with jsut the dual channel memory. I dont think running 3 sticks of ram on a dual channel mobo is a very good idea but I could be wrong.

VERY true, this is never a good idea. And, I would not try to run any 79** card or cards with a Rosewill PSU.

I didn't notice that but it is ture as well, I doubt any rosewill PSU puts out enough Amps ont he 12V rail to run a 7900 consistently, but since it also freezes while not stressing the video card I would guess the RAM is causing more problems.

I would replace the power supply even if it is not the problem here.
