There is some rumor that most of the money goes to the organization and only 10 percent really goes to help the poor. I saw this on Public television PBS, this old guy kept begging you to send in money either by CC on telephone or mail in with your checks.
The following goes like this, send in 15 buck help to ship 50 lbs of potato.
50 bucks, 200 lbs of potato.
100 bucks, 500 lbs.
500 $$$ a full truckload. LMAO!!!
freaking scam artist, i realize that they are already stinking rich by now as they have been doing this for who knows how long, 30 years? and no one seem to care.
He say that you must do it now because these potato are rotting fast and they need your support.

Got proof?

PS HP, so can I, but does anyone know what S&H to a 3rd world country is?

man, i'd be really disappointed to hear these guys are frauds - they've been around for a long time & have a great reputation.

Unfortunately, you are correct. The shipping and handling could amount to three times the cost of the spuds.

I can't believe they are asking for so much yet you do not know if the money any at all will go to help the children. I think it was to help fund shipping potato that they say are rotting away in CA. I have read somewhere on the internet that the shipping truck company is ran by her own daughter and his son have even forge his father's signature so the money goes directly to him. Nothing happen to them as of yet since it a family business to help needy children 🙂
There is rumors that very little of it goes help anyone and that it was just a showoff just to prove to you on TV that they do. No matter how much money is funded, they are alway asking for more. a site said they were established in 1979, so 24 years of operation?
I didn't realize that its all over on the internet as well, too numberous to count. new one keep popping up wanting to sponsor feedthechildren that will link directly to their main site.
I am suspicious of their practice and will do more research whats really behind all this.

Why would you get more bang for your buck if you pay more? If they actually are sending potatos to third world countries, then presumably they are sending them in large shipments, not individual 50 pound shipments... So the cost should be constant. I guess they're just trying to encourage you to give them more money.

There is some place that provides you with the information to figure out how much of each dollar actually benifits the children and how much goes to the organization.

I think Toys for Tots is one of the best in that regard. Something like 95% of your donation goes to who it's intended for.
