Well, I'm going to be 18 in October and I think I'll feel like a big loser w/o my license by then.
Society is telling you that you're supposed to get a license at the age of 16. Ignore it. I know people in their 60s that are just now getting the license.
I'm 20 and without my own car. I'm no less of a person for it.
Besides, I failed my first road test. I was in my mom's Ford Windstar, and I hit too many damn cones. (I still hate driving that thing.) The fact that it was an automatic didn't give me enough to concentrate on, and I had plenty of concentration left over to get nervous. It was also like trying to steer Noah's Ark compared to what I was used to. I later smoked the test in my dad's Jeep Wrangler, a smaller 5-speed manual. I drove his car a lot more often.
Try to see about borrowing an easier-to-drive car from somebody.
If I were you and failed the written test, I'd certainly feel ashamed, but to be nervous on a road test? That's quite human.
Edited the smiley. Cheer up.
