Today is my birthday and all I want for my birthday is to be able to figure out how the HE** to get my email out of Altavista.Altavista is my main email account where I get all my important email and it has gone from bad to repulsively irritating the living daylights out of me. Everyday I can never get the page to load to get me into it.And when I do it either takes me to an error page or takes 15 minutes just to get to read an email.I HAVE HAD IT!!Altavista is not a pop server.Does anyone know of any email services that can get my email from them? And if there are how do I go about doing it. I would greatly appreciate any help as I am pulling my hair out everyday trying to get to my email.:|

dude more info man, if you can get into the files but cant see anything back up the stuff, since you dont say what prog you are using i cant tell you what to back up.

however, im familiar with mercury/pegasus and outlook2k, so let me know if you need help in these.

There are free email services (POP type) that will allow you to retrieve other mail thru their system. Have you tried that?

What free Popservers will do this? How do I set it up?I found WebBox but I can't figure out how to use it or the right name to put in for it to pick up mail?

it's "onebox". once set up, go to options then "external mail". Self explanatory.
good luck, let us know!

Onebox could not retrieve it either because Onebox can only retrieve email from a POP server. Altavista is NOT a POP server. :|

Yahoo could not retrieve my mail either as it too can only retrieve email from a POP3 Server and Altavista does not have a POP server. :|:|:|:|:|

The problem is that a POP server email service can only retrieve email from another email source that is also a POP server.Altavista is NOT a POP server which is why none of the POP servers you all mentioned can retrieve the email. POP serveres can ONLY retrieve mail from OTHER POP servers. Does anyone understand me now? Am I a hopeless case or what?

Whel..I just popped into my altavista account and it's not that slow at all. Have you tried using a computer from somewhere else (library, for instance), accessing your account, and forwarding all mail to another account? Have you tried changing preferences to show the least possible messages per page?

I think the way you wrote it made most people think you were looking for a new email provider that had pop access, not looking for a way to get at your altavista mail.

Ladi, Have you tried accessing altavista at other times of the day?Like later in the morning, and all afternoon till evening? Are you able to access it easily then? The only time I can access it is way late at night into the early hours of morning.I'd like to be able to access it at other times in the day.Altavista would not help me either. They just say they are working on the problem. If they are going to stick with such horrible servers they should at least provide some other way that we can get our email out.:frown:

Your only option is to just keep trying; it's not a POP3 server, so there's no other way of accessing it.

My advice? Stay away from freemail, and add another mailbox to your internet account. You get what you pay for.
