I got my new motherboard today (Soltek SL-75DRV2). I installed it physically into the case, added the CPU, heatsink, PCI cards, etc..
I hit the power button and the fans kicked on, but nothing on the screen. I checked everything over again and when I couldn't see anything
wrong I took out all the PCI cards and removed the floppy and Hard drive cables. Started it up again and the same thing. I put my hand on the
Heatsink and it was cold. I reset the bios on the motherboard using the jumper but nothing. I was about to give up and started to uninstall the board and
was going to return it. Just before removing the board I remembered a post about some motherboards needing the 3 pin connector to show the heatsink fan
is spinning to start up. I pulled out an old fan I had that had the 3 pin connector and put it on the fan header intended for the CPU. I hit the power button again
and this time it posted. I shut it off and removed the 3 pin fan and hit the power button again and it started. Now I was confused. I installed all the components
again and hit the power button and this time nothing. Not even the PSU fired up. I removed everything again and hit the power button and again nothing no fans
or anything. I unplugged the PSU from the wall and plugged it in again and still nothing. I unplugged it again and plugged it back in one more time and this time it
fired up and posted. I went one item at a time and started the system up to post after each item and this time I made it 100% of the way through.
The most confusing thing is why did putting the 3 pin fan on the fan header make the system post and then it still posted after removing it.
I have installed literally hundreds of motherboards over the years and never had a board so dead come back to work seemingly perfect.
