I start to dislike (adobe) flashplayer even more then i did

I have to rant out of frustration.

My once perfect browser which has never let me down before has become what it never was since the last version changes. 9 was always great with 10 it was still ok but getting bloated. But since 11.xx it is crap. Opera crashes often ever since it reached version number 11. It is slow in loading, slow in closing. The new mail client is crap. I think i am better of using the older version or search for another browser.

Prone to crashes. Slow as hell. Opera seems to be bloated, would fit right in at peopleofwallmart.com .

My sweet sweet browser, what have they done with thou ?
🙁🙁🙁

I haven't had any problems with it, doesn't feel slower than older versions to me and I haven't had any crashes.

Can't say about the mail, as I seldom use it, but otherwise I'm pleased with its performance on Ubuntu. It isn't my primary browser, but I still like it. Maybe try a complete wipe and reinstall.

For mail, try Thunderbird. It's not integrated into the browser, but I consider it the gold standard of mail clients.

Switch to Firefox,

Then google and install the following addons:

Ad-Block Plus (you will never see ADS any more on any site)
Xmarks (synchornizes your bookmarks so you get the same bookmarks anywhere you go and backs them up)
IETab (for opening those rare or old sites that only render properly on Internet Explorer)
LastPass (best password manager)
TinyURL (allows you to easily right click on a link and shorten it)

I haven't had the problems your describing during the rare occasions I use Opera. I would suggest either installing Firefox or doing a complete wipe and reinstalling Opera.

To my fellow Opera users. I have narrowed the search to having multiple interactive pages with embedded video players open. I think it is a problem with Java but i am not sure yet, it can also be the awful adobe flash player. I have updated the JRE regularly and the flash player as well. Perhaps there the problem can be found. I remember vaguely that ever since i had to do a lot of flash player updates, opera has slowed down. But i have to confirm that first. Problem is, that i have no idea how ? Anybody have an idea ? Are there flash alternatives ? I would think not to be honest. Is there a way to force opera to use youtube with html 5 only ?

It seems i am not the only one and the culprit is indeed as always the flash player from adobe. This problem also seem to happen with other browsers. I have vindicated my sweet browser from my own false accusation. 😳

I found a clarification on the opera forum.

Raghu , thank you for the tip.

By the way, does anybody find it odd that we have to supply a telephone number in order to verify a new email account at hotmail or google ?

I need to get a prepaid card for these actions.

Time for the test. I completely removed opera and the flash player. Even combed through the registry.

I installed Opera again (11.61).
Installed a skin.

Downloaded flashplayer. Beware, the flash player from the adobe website comes with a mcafee virus scanner unless you uncheck the box on the webpage before downloading on.

Opera seems indeed to subjectively respond faster now.

The flashplayer i have not yet tested.

Interesting.
I did the HTML 5 trial.
HTML 5 was fine yesterday. Now it seems a bit nervous with respect to controls. At the moment i switched back to the flash player. ANd the flash player seems to function fine. Also, there is no longer any delay when i am typing. During flash player usage of a youtube video the max cu usage = 47%.
During HTML 5 usage of the youtube video it is 75%.

I guess i have to wait for the hardware acceleration of HTML 5 with opera 12 ?

The pc is a bit busy in the background and is a bit old, an upgrade cycle is coming soon for this pc 🙂.

Yahooo. Since i completely removed opera including registry entries and profiles, my mail also works a lot better. Now i am happy with the mail as well.
I have a new skin for opera called : "iMACOS Lars" and it works great after customizing.

The extension worked, but i disabled it again for now. I had no use for it.
