I love that average earnings comment that gets car dealers all excited. Heh.. 50% made below 50K.

And good luck, although I despise car dealers.

it's not the median, it's the average. I would guess a lot more than 50% made less than that.

and yes, prepare to be hated. No one likes car salesmen

If you truly were you would not have to pursue a career in car sales.

Ive always been curious as to how a job like that compares to a normal retail job. Anyone actually have any experience in that field?

Word of advice, if they have a lease prophet/marketscan system (the one with the big thumbprint on the screen) or something similar and they'll let salesmen do their own scans...Learn it if you want to get even close to 50k a year.
Either way Toyotas practically sell themselves. The trick is to convince them to buy it from you and not the dealership up the street, people will travel as much as 100 miles to get a deal.

I would hate to swindle a poor family that has little knowledge of credit or financing into buying a new car they can't afford. Yes, they should do their homework, but the dealer will always tell you to sell the dealer's financing package as opposed to a seperate bank, and tell them how easy it will be once they spead the payments out for about twenty years and put their balls in a vice. They will walk out happy, and you will have your sale (and the guys balls), but you will know you basically screwed their financial standing.

BTW, read this: Edmund's Confessions of a Car Salesman

*note anyone wanting to buy a land rover/volvo or jag, pm for referral link. Only a few left.

The car market is in a slump. Companies are really desprate buy offering employee pricing to consumers. Ever since GM started the employee pricing, their sales picked up and now everyone is on the bandwagon. Long gone are the days where dealerships made a couple of thousand on a car deal.
