Richard Jordan had everything he was told to want: cars, a new house, and a fiancee. Then his fiancee left him. So he sold everything, bought a Lamborghini Gallardo and set out across America. This is his amazing story.

I would have opted for a motorcycle instead. It's less practical in some ways, but a hell of a lot cheaper.

so year later he's in deep 6 figure debt and the equity in the one asset he owns is ~40K. I would've left him also.

You gotta admire him in some ways for setting out to do something that truly made him happy.

There is always a part of a man that yearns for adventure, but you are on a path to destruction if you don't do it with balance. This guy didn't balance anything. I'm glad that he is happy but I seriously doubt that he would have regretted this experience if he did it with a Corvette or a Viper that wouldn't have left him in this kind of debt. Now his motorcycle shop is going to be burdened with this debt for years.

Well if he went with the Viper, he wouldn't have been better off. However if he went with the Chevrolet Corvette, yeah he would've been spared not only the higher price tag of the Lamborghini, but would have also avoided the gas guzzler tax AND would have gotten significantly better fuel economy.

Over 100,000 miles, he probably spent around $24,833 in gas for his Lamborghini, but had he gotten a 2006 7.0L 6-Speed Manual Corvette instead, he probably would have spent around $16,556 in gas for his car.

The Corvette gets 24mpg on the highway while the Lamborghini gets only 16mpg on the highway.

I didn't read the article...I assumed he bought the car outright...yeah...that's pretty stupid.

Yeah...my earlier comment was based on me not reading the article and realizing he went into debt on the car. Agreed that a lot of other cars could have been bought for an equal experience.

I don't know, if he's in his 30s, he could be living with a Lambo the rest of his life and still make it all back with plenty to retire with.

I'm pretty sure gas mileage was the last thing on his mind.

I don't think he was an idiot. Life's short - do what makes you happy. If the rest of your life is in the shitter and you've got the means, do whatever you want.

The part that stuck out to me most about this article was the lambo. After 91K miles, the engine borked. The timing chain effing stretched. How fucking weak is that. A Corvette is no Lambo, but anything from the base C6 up to the ZR1 would have laughed at 91K miles. The LS timing chains are bullet proof, as is the rest of the motor.

Seriously weak, Lambo, seriously weak.

I read the whole thing...

This guy is stupid. They're glossing over a very immature, far from Earth individual. He had a fiancee, a house, and several cars... he lost one thing (his fiancee), found himself in a house he didn't like an and area he didn't want to be in, so he sold everything (save for the house, which he can't get rid of to save his life), and bought a Lambo.

THEN he proceeded to drive across the country aimlessly, pissing away money on gas, motels, food, and speeding tickets. He put almost 100k miles on the car before the timing chain finally stretched and bent all of the valves. Now he has a Lambo worth far less than what he owes on it, but he's happy because it's a good center piece in the custom motor cycle shop he's starting...

Congrats to the guy for being happy, but good God, that's not my cup of tea. It takes more than just a car to make you successful.

If you own a Veyron, yea... just the $Million dollar car makes you successful.

I can't fault the guy, really...hell you only live once, and as long as he pays what he owes, who cares? I bet he had the best time of his life, and he'll have awesome memories forever.

I'm pretty sure gas mileage was the last thing on his mind.

This. You don't typically cross-shop a brand new Lamborghini with a Corvette.

if he was opening a custom bike shop, youd think he would have gotten a custom bike and trolled the country on it. at least that would be an advertisement gimmick.

i dont fault him for doing it tho, he did what he wanted and isnt looking for anyone to foot the bill for it.

Strange. The IP readouts in this picture look exactly like those in my A4.

Yeah, but nobody looks twice at a Corvette...they're a dime a dozen. A Lamborghini though? That's well worth the additional $8k in gas.

Besides, would you have bothered to read this thread if it was a Corvette he did this in? I wouldn't have.

I feel for the guy... until he forfeits his debt and makes me pay for his stupid tirade.
