I saw a report a few days ago in which the reporter discovered that the yellow light time in Georgia was lowered by 1 second in intersections where these were installed. What a crock of shit! (Georgia lawmaker helped pass a law to take them back to the extra second added).

It's definately a speed camera (there are two of them in the area) and the actual photograph camera has a lens cap.

I guess its too subtle. I thought it was funny.

edit: fixed some strange wording

Well maybe if you post a better picture. Seriously 0.2 megapixels?

spray paint the lens?

Couldn't you float a balloon with partially filled paint up to the camera, then pop it with a sling shot?

The paint would spray on the lens.

Or just tie the balloon to something and block the lens.

Thankfully they are about to get phased out in Texas if the Senate approves it after winning a House vote:

AUSTIN ? Red light traffic cameras would be phased out under a provision included in legislation to toughen state oversight of Texas' massive transportation bureaucracy.

House members gave the bill preliminary approval Friday after including amendments by Rep. Gary Elkins, R-Houston, to give the Texas Department of Transportation authority over red light cameras in the state.

Current contracts for red light cameras in Texas cities would continue, but they could not be renewed and no new contracts could be negotiated.

?As soon as these contracts are up, (cameras) would have to come down,? Elkins told the Star-Telegram. "We?re just saying as a matter of public policy going forward, this state doesn?t want them."

DayLaPaul had a good point about the size of my picture, I didn't realize how small the image had been resized. Here is an original size picture.

I saw it instantly on the first pic. lol

Just obey the speed, the lens cap will come off at some stage...

I've seen some cameras around here at lights, but never actually heard what they're for. I don't think they're for handing tickets, they might not even be cameras (maybe motion sensors?)

Yes, because motion sensors can see your license plate

That is the whole point. They are supposed to be a deterrent, not a covert op.
