I pretty much leave my desktop box, linux box, and htpc (in the living room) on at all times.. And, I find myself trying to give them something to do - like defragmenting, downloading, searching for spyware, etc..
I think it's a habit I developed when I used to download music while in middle and high school off a 14.4kbps and later 28.8kbps modem. I used to queue up 200mb worth of stuff and have it download all night.. until 8am where I would have to disconnect it so my mom could receive faxes.
For a while, I ran SETI.. but I quit doing that after I noticed my computer going full blast 24/7 caused it to be warmer in my room. And, there isn't a graphical linux client that I can find.
But for some reason, I just seem to feel better when my computer is doing something useful - though I get that feeling now from seeing the little red recording light on my replay tv.
Anyone else like to give their computer stuff to do while they're gone?
