I need an LCD TV. I sit about 5 ft from the TV. Which size would be best?

Actually I just measured again. Its more like 4 ft from where I sit to the TV. Budget about $500-700. I was thinking of the Vizio 32 inch 1080P for $549 at costco or $649 for the 37 inch vizio at costco...

Don't get anything above 40" because you really won't notice a difference Also 720p is fine because you are sitting really close to it anyways.

When I sit at my computer desk in my room its 4 ft to the tv from where I sit. When laying in bed its 6 ft. I'm buying tomorrow so its either the 32 or 37. I had a 40 inch and after a couple of days decided its way way to big for where I sit. It actually made HD channels looks not so good since I was sitting so close to it. THe 32 is $549 and the 37 is $649. I have a $100 costco cash card that I won at a company party so you can actually knock $100 off each of those prices so its more like 32 inch $449 and 37 $549...

Higher resolutions will look better up close, and he may as well if it's within is budget (1080p).

It is :) I definitely want 1080P. And for $449 for a 32 inch 1080P or $549 for a 37 inch 1080P that' well within my budget....

I wouldn't go any bigger than 32" like a couple others have suggested. That's really quite close to the TV and anything larger than that might be a problem.

Being that close though, you may want to see if you can find a 1080p in your pricerange (I'd be surprised if you couldn't)..

Lol actually both Tv's I'm looking at are Full 1080P. Both vizio. One is 32 inch and one is 37 inch. My old tv was a 27 incj sony tube tv. What does that equally in LCD terms of size?

I'm 5 ft. away from the 52" TV in our dorm and I think that's just right.

Honestly I dont see a downside to more inches. It's just good. I wanna see entertainment not wall! :D

Quite the opposite. At that distance you WILL notice the pixels.

1080p for sure. 40" if you can afford it.

I'm going at lunch to pick one up. I still haven't made my mind up yet. I'm going to stand about 5 ft from both tv's while I'm at costco and see what would be better....

I'd go with a 1080P TV, no question.

Vizios are reasonably well made, but support sucks and you get soaked if anything goes wrong after the first few months of ownership. OTOH, a Samsung would cost vastly more, and if you're on a limited budget you may as well go for the Vizio.

Also, you HAVE to have 1080p if you have a PS3 (which you likely will, if only to play blu-ray discs.) It looks amazing.

I got the 37 inch :) After looking at both the 32 and 37 in the store and standing where I would be standing at home, the 37 was easier to see thanks for all the help..

Good choice. I'm using a 32" for my computer monitor and sitting about 2 1/2 feet away is just right. 4 feet and I wouldn't recommend below 37. I had a 47" before as my PC monitor while sitting 6 feet away.

LG has a "minimum" formula. Your screen size in inches should be 1.5x in feet the distance you plan to sit, at minimum.

So 4 feet sitting distance = 2.5 x 12 = 32 inches. So a 37" would be ideal at this distance.
