After interviewing on site at 6 companies, and getting 1 acceptance, 3.5 rejections (still haven't heard from 1 company+ 1 of 2 groups at a company I visited over a month ago), I signed a job offer with the company I interned with in the summer 2005 & 2006. I'll be moving back out to steamy Phoenix starting in July with Freescale Semiconductor, as a rotational engineer (first year involves 4 jobs for 3 months each), maybe with one rotation in Austin. In the meantime, I plan on working in Atlanta (man I'll miss this city, its awesome) until the end of March and then travelling abroad from April-June. But first to finish my last set of finals and project, graduation with my MSEE is in 9 days!

I also signed a job offer today! Now I just need to sign the 100 other documents they want done and I might actually have a job :p. That rotational assignments thing sounds interesting, one of the other jobs I applied for had it exactly like that where you work at 4 jobs for 3 months each and then sort of decide which one fits you best (or else maybe THEY decide for you :p). My job seems like its get there the first day and boom you have an assignment, starting last month they have apparently been bringing in new college kids every week for the project, in the end there will be something like 100+ of us newly graduated engineers working on the project.

EDIT:
company = Bechtel
project = Watts Bar 2 completion (2.5 Billion 5 years nuclear plant construction project)

Nope. I'm 25 miles away from the plant and will work white collar.

Seriously man don't feel bad, I know thats what I was like for awhile and then BOOM I got a first interview a second interview and a job offer all about a week apart. That was like 3 weeks ago and now I have just signed the contract for a company I only applied to like a month ago. Trust me, your GPA is probably better than mine and I'm sure you have other good stuff, its really just alto of luck in you having what the company thinks they need, I was flat out rejected with no interviews or only a first interview for jobs I was WAY better qualified for and hired by one where I seemed to be poorly qualified and also happened to pay more than any other job I applied to. Its really just the luck of the draw and you have tons of time before graduation to get lucky :p.

Yeah, thats what they are telling me that I will be working in Knoxville but then they also think I need to get an un-escorted nuclear security clearance for the plant, so I'm starting to think now they might be sending me out there too (which it KICK ASS imo since there is already one operating nuclear unit there and building another). Mydad has worked as a nuclear engineer for 30 years and is not allowed in a nuclear plant without an escort and now I will be on my first job :p.

Good to hear people are getting jobs all around. I think there's quite a bit of hiring going on in general.

I need to decide on one of two offers. I'm sort of waiting to hear on a third but it's been a while so probably not. Still, I'm 2 out of 3 on offers vs onsite interviews! I'm not graduating until May 2008 but I started early by going to the fall career fair and got quite a few opportunities so that was definitely worth it. I still could go to other onsite interviews but at this point I'm just gonna take one of these two and be done with it.

BAE Systems in Johnson City, NY
or
Cat Electronics [Caterpillar] in Peoria, IL

It's tough to decide. Y'all have to help me! :)

I'm in Computer Engineering but from what I seen at the job fair and onsite, there's tons of opportunities for EE, CpE, and CS/Software Engineering. There is still tons of companies I could've contacted and/or go for an onsite had I not gotten any offers, and that doesn't even scratch the surface (haven't even tried a ton of large companies say defense, computer, manufacturing, etc much less government jobs) so although it can take a while sometimes and be discouraging, there is no shortage of places to apply to, and everyone has told me they most certainly need good college grads in engineering. And by good, hell I don't have any relevant work experience outside of a single co-op nor do I have anything special, they just want some decent people!

<------- Peorian here.

If you are young, single, and like the big city life you will probably not be very happy here. It's a great place to raise a family, but not really a place that screams out "EXCITEMENT!". Homes are cheap, traffic is non-existant, and the people are pretty friendly so that's a major bonus. Plus you are a 2.5 hour drive to Chicago, less than 3 to St. Louis, and less than four 4 from Indy. So plenty of options if you want a weekend getaway.

As far as Cat goes, I don't know a *ton* about the EE positions. But most other "white collar" positions will require you to move several times if you want any sort of advancement. I don't know how forthcoming they are in their interviews about it, but that's just the way Cat works. I know people that have been sent to North Carolina, Texas, Malasia, Brazil, Europe, ect. If you like it great. If you have a family...maybe not so great.

Interesting. I worked in a Nuke plant before, unescorted. Didn't seem like that big of a deal.
Of course, high rad areas are off-limits without permits.
Nuke plants are very interesting to work in. I loved it.

Now I am into Gov't nuke waste. Interesting too, but more of a drag at times.
