being a knowledgeable computer guy at a large computer company wastes time. you get people asking you the same question over and over again because they can't remember. it can get you in trouble because you're spending too long on the phone with people asking about products from different depts that you can't even sell (not big trouble but your numbers for the day aren't nice.) it can get you into a sticky situation if you're also the "brutally honest" type. for instance, i had a customer call up who was having some probs with something they should have called tech for, but they also said that the system was sluggish. so i can sell more ram, which will help if they have less than 256 in most cases (especially with winxp). i get it. i see its a p4 with regular SDRAM. 256 already.
so i say, "yeah, its going to be sluggish, and theres not much you or anyone else can do about it."
"well whys that?"
"you have a p4 with SDRAM"
"so?"
"well the p4 with SDRAM is a big joke that intel played on everyone"
"what?!?"
so then i managed to convince the guy i was joking.
