The PO closes at 5 (i think), so i'm hoping the package did not leave yet. What are the chances of the packages leaving an hour before closing time?

What i'm thinking is that i'll visit the PO at 5 AM Pacific (as they open 8 am Eastern), to check on this. BUT, on the occasion that this WAS sent out, what can i do? Can i call it in to have the package sent back to the sender (me)? It was sent priority with dc and insurance btw, if it matters.

THANKS.

i think by law you are not allowed to interfere with the delivery of the mail...and i dont think the PO is allowed to give it back to you once in their possession.

i dont know what to do but to kindly ask the recipient to refuse delivery? (is that possible through USPS?)

my understanding is that,
once its mailed they can't give it back to you.

It's possible to get it back as I did it over 2 months ago. I realized I send the wrong item and went back 30 minutes later. They were reluctant to do it but allowed me to do so as I'm there almost every day. They just asked the clerk if she helped me and I showed them my receipt and the shipping address I used, and also asked me to describe the package. I don't think they were supposed to let me do this. If they didn't I would have been out a few hundred bucks as I would have shipped someone the wrong item and probably wouldn't get it back. I considered myself very lucky.

once the recepeint gets the package he can take it back to the post office and if its not opened they will return it for free.

The odds are high that the package will be gone by tomorrow morning. Most of the mail coming into a PO moves out overnight. See if you can get the recipient to return it unopened like DarkManX suggested.
