I seem to have misplaced a serial port!

I don't recall when the last time I saw it was, as I have ever had only one serial device, my trackball. When I needed one for my digicam it wasn't there! I mean not in W2K PRO device manager at all. I checked my bios and there was AUTO enabled for com 2, but no sign of it. There is no suspect jumper on my ancient DFI MB. When I unplugged my trackball from com1 into com2 no mouse was there after booting.

Any ideas where to look?

PS: yeah I know serial photo downloads suck, I have a USB card and jumpshot USB compact flash on order.
