I screwed up on shipping. Accidentally wrote the wrong recipient name on the address.

When I was in Sequoia I bought iPhones on eBay for two friends of mine. They could not buy it themselves because they did not have credit cards, so I bought them and they immediately paid in cash.

Both of my friends worked at Sequoia. One friend, Eugene, got his iPhone and is happily on his way back to Russia. I screwed up with the other friend, Irina. I accidentally wrote Eugene's name on the package that was intended for her, and now her boss (Susie) has taken custody of it, saying that Irina can't have it until she gets a call from Eugene telling her it is ok to release the package to Irina. Her legal department specifically told her to do this. Unfortunately, Eugene doesn't seem to be responding to his emails (probably traveling).

I understand her side of the issue. She can't just release it to anyone we tell her to release it to because if the package DID belong to Eugene and she just released it to someone else, well, then there would be some issues. Eugene could sue her, she could lose her job, etc. So she doesn't want to trust any of us.

However, I bought the thing. It was my ebay account, my paypal account, my credit card. Don't I have the final say in who the package should go to? In addition, Susie is Irina's boss. Does she even have a right to detain the package? Right now the package is being held by Susie, and Irina is leaving for Russia by Saturday.

Eugene has not emailed her to clear the package. The seller has not emailed her as per my request. I have emailed her but it is not enough for her. What should I do?

Get in touch with the guy that it was addressed to, technically in a CYOA type situation its the safest thing for the boss to do.

Do you have receipts for shipping the packages? Maybe you could ask the boss lady what it would take for her to release the package outside of being contacted by Eugene?

Could you just have the boss return the package to sender (you) and mail it back with the correct name?

The sender is actually NOT me. I purchased this on eBay, so the seller is the shipper. The seller has also been pretty incompetent throughout this whole process... continually giving me an incomplete tracking number, not responding to emails in a timely manner, and not replying to my last email requesting he email Susie from the last three days.

The boss lady says she is busy and this is on her back burner as far as priority. I even sent an email to her and called to verify that she got it, but she didn't. It went straight to spam, and she can't be bothered to dig it out.

That's what I'm trying to do. Unfortunately, he's not responding and Irina is leaving the States in half a week. I would like to avoid international shipping if at all possible.

Doubt that's gonna happen. The boss lady is just covering her ass.

Look at it from the other side.

A package is addressed to an employee. Another employee says, "Hey, that's mine." The boss decides to hold on to it until the person it was addressed to can clear it up. That seems pretty logical to me. If I was the boss, I wouldn't do anything until I hear from Eugene, I don't care who contacted me with whatever story.

Just wait it out.
