Hey AT...
Just another one of those.. "gee, i screwed things up at work, and i wonder if i'll get the boot" thread. It might be a tad big long, just so i can provide info.
So, I work for offshore on a drill ship in the gulf of mexico. Been at the job for a bout 18 months know. Not a bad gig at all being its my first 'professional job' since i graduated college ( Cmputer Engr Degree). Although, i've been working for my company ( just for the record: I"m not really good friend with dick cheney) for about 18 months. I have just been recently "assigned" to work at this rig ( or customer's site) very recently. I bounce around from rig to rig before getting stuck on this drill ship. Drill ships are one of the nicest places to work when compared to other rigs... Better rooms and usually a better food selection than normal Semi-submersibles.
The gist of it is I work nights out here, and I work with a fellow co-work who is my supervisor. She and I hired on with the company together, at the same time. I was friends with her out side of work b/c when we hired on, we didn't know any body really in the town that we living in. In fact there were was a group of new hires that i hung out with since we were all knew to the company and didn't know people inthe town we were living in.
Just to make it a note, i try to not to work with people I conider friends outside of work. Ie you got "work friends" and then you have fellow co-workers where you will go to their place to chill out, drink with etc. So far I've been lucky.
So, I get out to the rig, doing a new job position. No reall formal training; its doing a lot of daily paperwork and jazz. I managed it ok.. I made a few screw ups here and there. Some were big and some where not. Most of it was contributed to being new to the job. Plus, I was told conflicting things sometimes about what I had to to, or I should go about doing stuff. Another thing was figured out what the customer needed to know and how they wanted to know certian things. Things you pick by dooing the job and talk with your supervisors and the customer rep that you interact with. I did those things, maybe not tot he best degree, but i tried with what i got.. And what I've learned from working with other crews on different rigs ( although, some of what those guys taught me was in conflict with they way things are done on this job).
i some how screwed things up with my friend who is my supervisor out here. I lot of it comes down to my attitude towards my work and her I guess. I mean yea, i got a little sassy every now and then, but workign with day crew ( I work 12 to 12, the other crew poeople i worked with did 6-6 shifts) we all busted on each other in some way, pretty benign, stuff. Well, I guess i screwed it up big time... and she will talk to the office, our 2 managers and our managers'boss, about me.
So, I guess, I wonder if I'll get fired or something or get assigned to another rig, or worse. IShe won't work with me again, and we are not friends anymore. I guess my work personalty and my non-work persona are differnt. I really should have started job hunting like 6 monthes again, but work started getting a litte better; and things training wise and advancement wise was looking good. Thats why I stuck it out.
So, ATOT, my question to you really is ( other than what do you think my fate will be): Do you you my friend who i pissed off, and burned bridges with, among other things, will give me back the 3 DVDs that I lent her a few months ago in a timely manner?
🙁
