Anyway, yes, my sister with IBS has been using a short footstool for this purpose for about 10 years. It doesn't stow away as conveniently but it never looked out of place.

Actually, he doesn't. Taller toilets offer no benefit to the actual process, however it may help the elderly and tall people or people with bad knees.

In fact, they may very well negatively impact your ability to have a strain-free shit. I for sure have noticed this - I hate tall toilets with a passion.
