I scared a coworker today with my rather "blunt" analogy...

Ok, the analogy was funny as hell :)
but ... very poor judgement in today's environment with all the workplace violence & such.

I think you ought to make some apologizes and expect to be watched a bit more closely for awhile.

woudln't that depend on his work environment.... something you probably wouldn't know about...

Yea, I don't know anything about his specific work environment.
But alot of places are taking anything that could even remotely be construed as a threat very seriously.

If she mentioned this incident "up the chain", they would almost certainly call him in to talk about it, on the record. Because if they didn't, and he did "go postal" they would face some huge liability because they didn't take any action regarding previous "threats".

It would depend on how it was delivered of course, but I wouldn't take it as a threat.
But it sounds like she did, so you should give this some consideration.

*Girl point of view* Don't you dare apologize, I mean I guess it depends with what tone of voice you used, but I don't see anything wrong with your analogy. I'm not a computer wiz and your analogy cleared it up for me! Sounds to me like she just felt stupid for not knowing the answer to her own question rather than being upset that you may beat her over the head with a baseball bat!;)
