I saw MARS

The other night, I was taking the trash out. I saw the moon to the east and it was almost a full moon. To the right of the moon was an orangy, red starlike object. I think that was mars cause all the stars were clear white in color and this thing seemed closer than any stars out that night.

Am I wrong?

Mars should be the 3rd or 4th brightest thing in the sky.

3rd brightest. 2nd brightest in the night sky, next to the full moon. Normally Venus is brighter, but on 27 Aug Mars will be closer to the earth than it has been in the past 5000 years, and probably the past 60000 years. So yeah, look at Mars now 🙂

Seems some people haven't been paying attention to the news. Several people seem to be indicating that they didn't know Mars was visible. Look to the right of the moon. The bright orange or red dot in the sky is Mars. Stars aren't that red.

oo so that was mars. looked very bright and orange. thought it was venus or something

wish I had a scope. my binoculars just turned it into a bigger orange dot. the moon was nice to look at though.

Sure they are. Stars can be very very red. You just usually don't notice because they aren't that bright. Most of the really bright stars around here (Sirius for example) are white stars. Betelgeuse is the only bright red star I can think of off hand.
