I Saw A WWII Bomber Over My Neighbourhood Today

I live about 15 miles from Scott AFB, and I see huge planes all the time. I bet I've seen a stealth fly over 20 times. Big bombers and cargo planes, fighter jets, etc.

I was dating a girl from out of town and we were chillin on my back porch when a couple of figher jets flew over super fast and very low. Came out of nowhere, flew by so fast we barely saw them. Scared the crap out of her. =) I'm used to it.

I live in Fairview Heights (A) and Scott AFB is point (B). As you can tell it's basically a straight line from Scott AFB to St. Louis, and my town is on the way.

Aw shit, air show in my city in 2 months. Two summers ago, some effing jet pilot decided to buzz my neighborhood. Probably supersonic because there was a once second giant boom with no trailing or warning sound -- on and off. My windows were open.

oh man....

when I was living in Chicago, a few days before the air show was set to begin, I was chilling in my apartment, when suddenly, I hear this mind-numbing screech, as if a plane is heading straight for my building. I cant' even think it is so damn loud.

I panic, jump and head for the door...only I manage to find myself in the bathroom with nowhere to go. I'm thinking--Fuck! I can't climb out that window! After a few girly screams and a few circles in the bathroom, I make my way to the front door and then the plane passes over. This all took place in about 5 or 6 seconds time.

I look out the window and manage to catch the ass-end of 2 or 3 F-16s vanishing behind some buildings as they fly out over lake Michigan.

I think they lease the jet, so doesn't really count.

Why would we lease our planes to the Canadians? That shit always comes back, the instruments all clogged with maple syrup and poutine. 😡

EDIT: it gets real fun when they do the Thunder over Michigan in Aug. They practice all week leading up to it.

way back in the early 90's, when we actually had an air show, the jets would buzz the north end of our city when they were performing. One of them was no more than maybe a 1000 feet away and maybe a 1000 feet up when he hit the afterburner. That was a sight to behold. I saw it from my back yard. It was also incredibly loud. Truly an awe inspiring sight.

B-17? This one flys a lot of north american air shows. I see it at the air show near me every couple of years...pretty cool seeing that 70 year old war bird.

Very cool! They have one on display at the Palm Springs Air Museum. I've crawled through it a few times.
