The chicks are too big for the roadrunner to take on now but I guess he can hope.

It was a cuteness explosion at the owl burrow this morning. The chicks found a gophersnake in the road. All five chicks were bouncing around it trying to figure out what to do while the parents watched from the fence. The chicks took turns swooping in at the snake and jumping back, none actually touching the snake. Once the snake made it accross the road, the chicks flew from bush top to bush top monitoring its movements. Meanwhile roadrunner was watching from about twenty yards away looking for a way to get the snake without the owls ripping it to pieces. I stayed until the owls were no longer in the road then left them to their hunt since I couldn't see the snake anymore. The snake's fate is unknown. No pics because I suck and didn't have a camera.

Here are chick pics from two days ago.

Peregrine Falcons where part of my life when I was a kid into my teens.

They don't exist any more.

Huh? Peregrines aren't extinct. I don't even think they're endangered--just "threatened" like nearly all birds of prey.

Oddly enough V-22s where what I first thought of when I saw the post title.

found this blog from a Marine Helicopter pilot about the V-22

https://medium.com/war-is-boring/yo...that-the-v-22-is-a-piece-of-junk-db72a8a23ccf

....

I personally think one of the biggest waste of money even to get them to fly.

They had them in development when I was i the Marines in the early 80's ad they still do not really work right.

Probably even a bigger waste than the F-35's considering how long they have worked on them.

That was going to be my next comment but you were all ready there.

They are still around, actually seem to be recovering a bit over the years.

I hope they continue to do so, those are some impressive high speed dive bombing Falcons.

Peregrines are my favorite animal. Such complete badasses. I see one or two around here every couple of weeks.

Saw one slaughter a pigeon roosting in a local shopping center a few months ago. It was amazing.

Yeah, I had one pacing my car a month or two back. I noticed the bird but didn't think much of it until I noticed I was going 50 mph. Then I did a double take, "Oh, right, peregrine."
