I saw a new captcha today and I hope it takes off.

Instead of making you type in a box it gives you the word. And 16 scrambled images in a grid. You click on the correct one.

I like it better.

Yeah that's awesome. Captchas are getting too hard lately. It's highly frustrating to get one wrong after painstakingly examining each letter for several minutes.

Wouldn't that only block 15/16 attempts. Doesn't seem like it's viable for a targeted website getting thousands or more attempts per day.

I also wonder how well google image search could be leveraged to speed up the process.

On my forum I gave up on Captcha's and just use a question. I've had zero automated spam posts since I started using it. What is the square root of pi * pi ? Give three digits.

Most bots have figured out how to do captchas, so now all they are is making it harder for humans to get through and easier for bots to get through. The scrambled image one could potentially work but there would have to be millions of different possibilities, and they'd have to be actual photos, so it would be very hard for a bot to analyze the pixels and figure out what the object is.

Some spammers are just too desperate to do what they do, which I don't understand because it serves absolutely no purpose. Forum spammers tend to just post some giberish and then leave. What's the point of that?

All of these things are retarded and I hope the person that came up with this terrible idea gets AIDS.

Same as the person who decided I needed to 'confirm email address.' IT'S AN EMAIL, NOT A PASSWORD, YOU DUMB SHIT. IT'S NOT FUCKING MASKED. WHY NOT MAKE EVERYONE CONFIRM EVERY FIELD?! FUCK, LET'S CONFIRM THEM FOUR TIMES! YOU SILLY GODDAMNED TWIT.

I'm skeptical that that is really the case.

The real problem with CAPTCHAs right now is that companies just hire people overseas and pay them a pittance to enter them en masse.

any link to what the heck youre talking about?

my favorite captchas are the ones you have to watch a 60sec commercial and then it tells you a whole sentence to type in. then its awesome when the file completes downloading and the chicks don't even look that hot

Sounds easy to crack, as there are a limited number of words. Dictionary words at that.

What's wrong with generic questions? That's the least offensive kind of this thing I've seen.

I mean, something as simple as 'During a clear day, the sky is [insert color].'

You type 'blue.' Instead of 'fudyensmehgns titwallop' or some shit.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!

Not a picture of an orange. A picture of the word orange. Like imagine if "orange" was the captcha. Before you had to decode it and type ORANGE.
Now it tells you "orange" and you gotta choose the captcha that looks like it probably decodes to "orange".

Also you arent clicking on a grid of photos with their own links, you're clicking on a Flash object.

So like a reverse captcha?

I like the ones that move, or asks you a simple question. Even the sound ones are better than the fucking warped letters I can't make out.
