I work at Sesame Place as a ride operator. In the course of my job I see a lot of bad behaviour from little kids, and an equal number of bad parents. Well today I was working on one of the new rides in the new Elmo's World section of the park and some family (one boy, one girl) wait in line for a good 15 minutes to get on the ride. The family comes up and the little boy decides that he doesn't want to go on because he's scared. Not really a big deal, it happens all the time and I just let them out through the exit. The dad takes the kid and waits outside of the gate for the mom and daughter because they still wanted to ride. Well as soon as I play the boarding announcement, the kid changes his mind and wants to go on. The dad calmly tells him, "No, you made your choice. Now you have to wait patiently for your mom and sister", at which point the kid proceeds to throw a temper-tantrum. The kid's screaming and crying and smacking the railing in front of him. I turn my head to see what all the commotion is about, and next thing I know, SMACK! The kid slapped his dad across the face... textbook b1tch-slap. The dad's face get's extremely red, obviously controlling the urger to lay a severe beatdown on this little prick. Anyway, the family left... didn't see what happened later. Fun times at Sesame Place!

Not only do you get a story, but you get a bonus rant! Must be your lucky day. Seeing this along with all of the other bad behaviour made me realize what little sh1ts some kids can be. I'm not saying all kids are like that, but a lot of them are. And the horrendus parenting skills don't help either. /rant

Well that part's a choice. Kids are a product of their environment, so if you raise them to be polite and considerate, then they will be.
 
Any time my daughter hit, we threw away one of her favorite toys. I think we through away 3 total toys and she hasn't done it since.

I'm sure hitting her to get our point across that hitting people isn't okay would have been much more effective. :roll:

How many kids you got? None. That's easy to tell.

All kids, even kids with loving nurturing parents will hit and throw tantrums. Being a good example and creating a good environment is HUGE, but it isn't enough alone. There still needs to be discipline.

Wouldn't that be reinforcing the idea that's it's ok to hit? If your parents do it, it must be ok. At least, that's the way the kid will see it.

Not all white kids are disrespectful obviously and neither are all kids of other races well behaved towards their parents, but a much bigger proportion are compared to other races. I think its cause indian, black and asian parents dont mind laying down an ass whupping once in a while.

and also back where I used to live, I was friends with a couple of guys who were thugs, but completely different around their mothers...and I also have friends who are good students, citizens or whatever you want to call and still yell and curse at their parents.

Maybe, if that's the lesson we're trying to teach...might be why a lot of adults who grew up during the "smack your kids around" time period are a bunch of worthless asses today. Personally I'd rather teach my kids that hitting people is not ok, not that they'd better not hit me as long as I'm bigger than they are. That's kind of missing the point...

Exactly. I don't understand why this is such a hard concept. You can't teach that something is not ok by doing it yourself, the only lesson a parent teaches that way is that things are not ok when someone can catch and/or punish you for doing it. It's not a coincidence that the biggest bullies are usually kids who are hit a lot at home.
