though it did draw in a lot of traffic.

i was not impressed with how it drove. it was slow and handled like crap.

With a PLASTIC frame, SOHV, and doors that prevented you from parking next to ANYTHING, it's a wonder anyone even buys the rebuilt ones you can buy on the web for $60k now-a-days.

They're entirely craptastic.

Brushed steel body, but plastic frame.

It's a shame that it was such a terrible car, because it was gorgeous.

I wonder what other chassis that the body would fit on? You could give it a real frame, good suspension, big engine, good gearbox, the works and have a sweet looking car that could actually drive like it looked.

There are two in the town I live in. The car is built like a tank, so you won't get many dents on it. The problem is it's incredibly HEAVY, and the engine isn't nearly powerful enough to hull around all that stainless steel. So, it looks nice, but it won't move very fast and it's not going to corner very well.

Yeah I was reading an article about them in a magazine at Barnes and Noble the other night. John Delorean chose a friggin Volvo engine to use in the things. I dunno what he was thinking. Nevermind. I know what he was thinking.

"I gotta buy me a couple of keys man!"

I still love that car. There's a company in Dallas that bought all the parts when they company went belly up. You can get a DeLorean restored. Maybe someday.

ditto  http://www.delorean.com/ 😀 Great mailing list - http://www.dmcnews.com/

The only time I've ever seen one is in a car museum, and they actually let me sit in it after much begging 😉 Of course I was a good foot shorter at the time and I had a bit of trouble fitting in, so I wonder how claustrophobic I would be now at 6'.

Deloreans are kind of like Corvettes...if you love them enough you'll overlook their flaws. They have a weak 130hp V6 (rear-mounted), no backseat, hardly any storage space in the front trunk, are VERY small (my old Saturn made it look big), have a really angled windshield, and are hard to see out the back because of the rear louvers. But they're cool and that's what counts.

ps - the Delorean company in Texas offers a 200hp upgrade 😉

he was coked up, so he was thinking "i'm f*cking brilliant!"

SOHV? lol

Someone who lives near me owns one. I see him driving it once in a great while. I still think it's a beautiful car and I would love to own one some day.

BTW, what happened to owner of Delorean? The guys who went to jail or something like that..?

I saw one in a body shop a few years ago with the plate "JIGAWAT"... I always thought that was cool.
