i was driving home from the bowling alley and traffic came to a complete stop on 75/85 which goes right through downtown atlanta. after sitting there for about 25 minutes we finally moved and there was a dead man lying in the middle of the highway. it looked like he had jumped off an overpass. you would think the cops would at least put a sheet over the body.

That sucks. I saw a pretty sticky situation (no pun intended) from a VW beetle smashing head on into a pickup truck. This was a few years back

Sh!t I guess I should turn the TV on.

I've seen plenty of dead guys though. Only one that really disturbed me had been dead for a little over a week, had a space heater on high, and had split open. I still smell it sometimes.

They say smell is the strongest sense tied to memory.

It gets to me if I know them, or I see some violence that kills them. Just plain old death like sacrosanct Is talking about does not bother me. Nobody gets out of here alive.

As for the first time, no, I've told that story enough on this board. I worked as an EMT for 2 years and nephrology for ~6 months. You get used to it.

No, you get used to it. ;) Death is a part of medicine and emergency services, not a typical part of everyone's life. In fact I'd guess that most people will rarely actually see a recently deceased person (particularly uncovered like that), outside of a funeral, hospital, or video clip.

Some guy committed suicide in front of me, decided to jump head first from a few floors up in a shopping mall about 10 feet in front of me. Still freaky even today.

Death is a part of life, but that doesn't mean it isn't a big deal for most people.

I've heard many times that smell never leaves your brain.... or nostrils, for that matter.

I've seen dead people and random body parts and limbs on the ground around me (after suicide bombings).
