I saw a bear today!

Some of you know that HayZeus and I just got a new home. Today I was in the kitchen and saw something black out of the corner of my eye. It was a bear strolling through our property! LOL! We see deer almost daily and the occasional fox at night, but this is the first time I've ever seen a bear outside of a zoo. Ahhhh Life in the woods. 😀 😉

I'm a pretty big dude, but there's something about bears that scares the crap out of me. I get real nervous camping or hiking in bear country.

Besides, I'm not worried about bears because no bear could ever catch me ...... it would be too busy slipping in my $hit. 😉

The closest run in I have had with a bear is when one decided to run across Route 80 at 7am in Pennsylvania while I was doing ~80mph. I missed it by about 10-15 feet.

I heard voices in our next door neighbors property. I yelled out that there was a bear just in case they were scared. But they did what we did.....pulled out the camera! (We were on our upstairs deck, though.) It wasn't a huge bear, but it was still very cool to see it. I love home ownership.

Unfortunately HZ's mom had a run in with a bear not too long ago. She was leaving for work (also live in the country) and was doing about 40 MPH. The bear must have been alongside the road and spooked. She hit it going about 40. 🙁 It went into the woods, so she doesn't know if it died or not. Caused $4,000 worth of damage to her Toyota, though. I felt sorry for her AND the bear.

hope you've got a garage or some other interior place to keep your garbage, or you'll be seeing Smoky a lot more often.
We do, thank God.

EDIT:

Donde es la fotographa?
Well, I'm at the old apartment without the camera. And....the camera sucks with taking pics that are too far away. (Even though it wasn't that far.) So, we'll have to see if I'll even be able to see it in the pics when I DL them.

Hopefully that's just a rare occurrence. I'd definitely keep an eye on protecting your trash.

I live in a moderately populated suburban area in a typical neighborhood, but we're VERY close to a state park so there's TONS of deer around our place. We have one of the largest yards in the neighborhood with a cluster of woods on our sidelot. The deer like to use that as a major cut-through apparently. My little dog is such an indoor city-slicker he hardly even notices them whenever we go outside. I was taking him out in the back yard one night last winter to go to the bathroom. I heard a snort and looked up to see a HUGE buck and a heard of at least 20 other other deer standing up the hill from me only 50 feet away. My dog didn't even notice he was so busy sniffing for a place to go. 😀

Where in VA are you guys?
Front Royal. 🙂

We live very close to the Shenandoah National Forest/Park. We're on over an acre of land. Every homeowner here has a pretty good sized plot, so there are lots of tress and woods for them to run through. I love seeing the deer (there was about 7 in our front "yard" yesterday afternoon) The bear did kind of freak me out, though.

🙁 Poor bears. 🙁

Yeah, it was a black bear.

I see bears all the time (Canada) but it's still always an "interesting experience" when they're that close to your house.
That's part of it. Where I'm from in California, I mainly saw deer once in a while. It's still WAY cooler to have deer and bears walking through OUR property. Not just on the side of some freeway.

Well, no more bears since then. 🙁 I've seen lots and lots of deer, though. Hmmm No more foxes either.

More animals, damnit!!!!
