I thought this didn't happen on LCD's?

Sharp 46" 1080p LCD

There was a logo clearly burnt into the display, on any black scene it was clearly noticeable...

But...but...Best Buy tells me it can't happen!?

Silly people...just ask them why it supposedly happens to plasmas and not LCDs and see the wheels spin.

Happened on my laptop LCD when I accidentally left it at a login screen during vacation.

Setting your background to all white will help to clear it up after a while.

EDIT: Grammar. I need to stop posting in the late hours of work.

It will go away on its own. However long the image was there is how long it will take to disappear.

I've seen a Viewsonic lcd monitor go bad almost immediately with a burn-in. And it's never going away.

I still wonder how so many other monitors avoid having the taskbar burned in.

Auto-hide the taskbar.

on a side note. Most TV stations are switching to trasparent logo's which greatly reduces the risk of burn in.

I had a rep tell me today that Plasmas have less of a burn-in problem than CRTs.

A few days ago a rep asked me what I'd be using my tv for, and when I said OTA digital, he told me that it won't look as good as the digital cable signal they had spliced among all the sets (he was trying to sell me cable service with my tv).

Correct. CRTs tend to burn in more than this generation of Plasmas. This is mostly due to the improvements in Plasma technology, but also with anti burn-in technology (like pixel shifting).

Did you ask him to share some of the stuff he was smoking?

How about they go back to no logo at all during programming like they did for the first 40 some years of broadcasting? Another thing they do that really pi$$es me off is superimpose those active ads for upcoming programming across the bottom of the screen obscuring the video and any writing that is being displayed from the actual program you are currently watching.
