I was driving home when I noticed a falcon sitting curiously close to the road and not really trying to get away. I stopped and took a couple pictures of it, noticed it was dragging it's wing. Luckily I had a towel and some rappeling gloves in the car with me, so I through the towel on it and took it to the nearest animal hospital. Turns out it had a pretty serious fracture in it's upper equivelent of our humorous. Dunno if they'll be able to pin it and rehabilitate it. If not, my friend has his raptor license and is going to see if he can keep it after they amputate the wing.

I'm pretty sure it was an adolecent peregrine, though they're not supposed to be around her this time of year. It could also be a prairie falcon. I'd post the pics of it, but my lovely dog ate my USB cable to my camera.

Update:

They did some x-rays of it lastnight, and the break was in a position that they think can be mended :D though it'll need to be kept isolated for a while.

Good job. I'm an animal enthusiast and most people would have passed that up.

+1 respect for Beau

Do it a lot actually, this one was just unique because of the animal type. A while ago I came across a loon that had a fish hook stuck in it's tongue, and the line was wrapped around its beak and wing. I took it home and removed the hook, patched up it's wing and released it the next day.

I once rescued an injured blackbird. I don't really know what was wrong with it, but I kept it for a couple days and it got better and flew away.

It's beak looked like it could really inflict a nasty wound, but it was actually pretty tollerant of me. After I threw a towel on it to blind it, it was relaxed enough to handle. I picked it up, making sure it's wings were tucked and it's talons were in a position that they couldn't get me, and the most it did to struggle was open it's mouth at me as if to hiss. When it was in the car, I simply wrapped the towel around it much the same way my hands were holding it.

Yep, exactly how you should have handled it.

They're pretty sedate when they can't see.

Just so you know, the towel or gloves would NOT have offered ANY protection in the event it had decided to get nasty with you. Falconeers wear the gloves for the falcons comfort not for protection. A bird of prey could easily rip gloves or a towel to shreds if it tried.

Good job blinding it though. How the hell did you drive and keep it blinded at the same time?
