I returned far cry today

I played until the trigen breakout, and then I was like "mutants?" oh, come on. you could have just decided that the game wasn't finished yet, plotwise. things like this disgust me. I wouldn't have minded fighting mercs for the rest of the game, but now, mutants? what's with this? Can't a single good fps be made without this convention? It's like saying "we're done writing good AI scripts and making detailed characters"

end.

The game is worth finishing, but i agree that when I got to the mutants I was disapointed. People need to cut that crap out. Mercenaries were fine. No need for mutant monkeys.

Returned a game? Wow, talk about cheap. Do you return dvd's too?

the trick is to stop playing them RIGHT before the credits come up, so you can say "I turned it off partway through" 😉

I don't think that "I didn't like it" should ever be an excuse for returning a game/movie. Tough, you chose it. Unless the company made a promise that it would entertain you...deal with it.

My game locks up in the catacombs after you fight those baddies and go thru the doorway to the next level. I have finished it 7 times up to that point and it kicks me to the desktop. I have had no other problems with the game😕

About returning DVDs... you're suppoosed to have already seen the movie in theatres, aren't you? so the comparison doesn't work.

i dont really see a problem with returning a game you find to be terrible. im amazed you can, but i dont think i would take a "youre so cheap" attitude about it.
one of the reasons is, though, i side with the OP. i have come to despise the whole mutant/alien cop-out. im so tired of fps games degenerating into that. i mean, i was done with it when spear of destiny came out.
although, im willing to bet that its a lot easier for a game to get by if it turns out the enemies you are fighting are not human. probably get less complaints from parents/easier rating maybe.

i agree, farcry sucked. i got to level 13, and was getting bored out of my mind. story line had been done before, and gameplay simply sucked

I started Far Cry and then Doom3 came out. Maybe I'll pick it back up when I finish Doom

Sheesh, if you want an uber plotline go rent a movie. Games are to be played, not watched, as Far Cry's sum total of ~5 minutes of cinematics hints at. Far Cry is the best FPS I've played, I like it better than even the Doom trilogy and HalfLife.

Uh no. Believe it or not there are thousands of movies released yearly. Ok maybe hundreds. There are people out there, scary I know, that buy dvd's they never sawon the big screen.

I stopped going to theaters when I got my home theater. No point.

There are plenty of games that have been made with great plotlines and great gameplay.

I prefer to have both myself and don't like games where the object is to just go around and shoot people for some stupid reason because the plotline sucked.

On the same note, I only played RTCW up until the demons and whatnot showed up. I didn't want to kill demons, I wanted to kill Nazis.

*nod* theatres are horrendous, nobody can shut up, especially the no fewer than 20 young children whose genius parents brought them (15+ in R-rated films), you have to take out a second mortgage to buy a snack or drink, god only knows what's happened to / spilled on the seats, etc... Oh and it never fails that someone who could play pro-basketball decides to sit *directly* in front of you.

seriously though think about how good some computer video game companies have it...

they are years late with the game....have a ton of exuses ..most of them not believable....have a ton of bugs when they finally come out....patch after patch

and we still buy them without even being able to return the fvckers if they suck...

I do perfer just fighting human badies. I don't like the monsters thing in general. Doom is an exception cuz you knew going in what you were getting. I think the games i like best are WW2 games, realistic stuff with real type combat. I am looking forward to games built on the FarCry and D3 engines when the liscense them out.

What was so terrible about it, other than having a vaguely similar plotline to HalfLife? I'll admit that I don't play many FPS games, so maybe that factors into it - and I'm a sucker for good graphics and the tropics, and that definitely figures into it.

I agree about the stupid mutants/aliens showing up.

Lets see, what games were pretty good until that happened:

Perfect Dark (the storyline was serious, yet the appearance of the stupid little blue alien Elvis was apparently to add comic relief?)

Then there's Halo. The Flood was not a shocking plot turn. The cinematic leading up to them was great, however their appearance was annoying. Oh no, little blobs are coming after me, WTF? I can only hope that Halo 2 doesn't degenerate into some humans and covenant unite against the flood crap. Leave them out, they suck.

Those are just the two I can think of most off the top of my head that I've played through to where the "shocking plot twist" happens. You could say that Doom3 and Half-Life are the same way, but its not the same as playing half-way through and then they just suddenly inject a mindless, annoying alien race to it.

I agree, Far Cry was a lot more fun with just the mercs, it did feel tacking on a little bit of Half-Life with the mutants scheme. Still a good game, but so far Doom3 feels much more superior in the plot coherency department (as well as all of the others) even though it's borrowed heavily from other games as well. It could be reminiscence or production gloss, but I find my self enjoying more and being frustrated less.
