And a lot of you can't wait until Vista has the official release!!!!! It will own you!!!!!

what does this have anything to do with the thread?

All versions of XP MCE are OEM. This means that your license is only valid for the orignal motherboard that it's installed on. Moving MCE to a different motherboard is a violation of Microsoft's EULA.

Microsoft doesn't HAVE to allow you to re-activate MCE after the move, but they'll probably allow it either online or when you do a telephone activation.

The real solution is to download, install, & start to learn to use Ubuntu Linux - it is FREE.

I have a real strong feeling that in two to three years, there will be very few home based Microsoft O/S users.

But good luck, in any case.

LOL! Wishfull thinking perhaps.......at best! As stated before, a vast majority of "home users" check email, IM, maybe play some games, read news........they started on Windows and have no desire/will to learn anything else.

Sorry dude, but I've heard the whole 'Linux will be mainstream in two years' since about 1996.

But anyways, thanks for your contribution to the thread, your advice really helped

Thanks for the help guys. I will try to activate it online and over the phone.

smitty308 and wpshooter: thanks for your advice, but i think i will stick with MCE

Occasionally, I'm tempted to barge into threads about Linux configuration problems (i.e. HELP! I can't get my video card to work from the Command line in Linux Distribution ZZZ!) with an snide remark about how much easier it would be with Windows XP.

But then I think better of it, and move on. 😉
There are reasons and uses for both Windows and Linux.

called Microsoft for activation. few basic questions and they activated it. no problem. thanks guys
