I rented Deerhunter tonight

I'm really excited to see this movie. I have somewhat of an unnatural interest in the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and apparently this movie inspired Jan Scruggs, a Vietnam vet, to begin work on the conception of the VVM in D.C.

Though Maya Lin's design graces the Mall, it was Scruggs who brought the whole project to the nation's attention and made it what it is today.

Scruggs was apparently inspired to create the Memorial because Deerhunter shows Vietnam vets returning to their country as hated individuals whose sacrifices weren't recognized by their fellow citizens.

I can't wait to see it.

Intense is absolutely right...that movie will really move you and fvck with your head...even for younger kids like us, the message is quite clear.

Great movie. Next...Taxi Driver. 😉

One of the worst movies ever filmed.

The Wall is a fvcking joke. Who cares? I means absolutely nothing except lots of wasted time, money and effort.

<--VN vet.

Yeah, but let's hope we can forget season 3 altogether. In fact I think it would be best if the series officially never contained a season 3.

It has a young Christopher Walken too.

Born on the 4th of July is pretty good too.

I saw it on tv and it was so intense, I had to get the dvd, so that I could watch it in it's full verision.

Agreed, waste millions on a wall and yet the vets aren't taken care of, if you take a gun and fight in a foreign country for AMERICA you should be taken care of for life.

Well, if it's any consolation, I didn't like the movie. I thought it was too long, too melodramatic, and not meaningful.

I enjoyed Full Metal Jacket much more.

Deer Hunter is waaaay overrated.

Be warned, although the movie is excellent; the first 1 hour is a little slow. They have a wedding and a hunting trip; then they leave for war.

Also, the dvd is "matted widescreen", so if you just so happen to own a widescreen tv, be prepared to watch it via a tiny box (unless your tv can zoom in).
