I remember why I stopped shopping at CC

I haven't in years, I only did this time because they had a decent deal on a Hauppauge card I wanted, and I knew if I had a problem they were just down the street and I could go there to yell if needed.

Bought the card online, had it shipped to me, installed it, have been using it for over TWO MONTHS now. A few days ago I start receiving calls that show up on my CID as "Ciruit City", first few times while I was at work, they don't leave a message. They apparantly figured out when I work and when I don't, cause they now call in the evenings. Last Friday, the first time I was home when they called, I picked up and it was some sort of Customer whatever rep wanting to know how the card was doing, and when I said fine thanks for asking she "reminded" me that I could get an extended warranty on it just to make sure if something did happen I'd be covered. I said no, I'm all set, but thanks for taking the time to check. They called back Saturday, same thing, different rep. I told her no, I talked to someone yesterday, and told them no. They just called AGAIN, some guy named Ted this time, same exact deal. Instead of answering his questions I started asking him if they actually had updated their records to show that I had said no already, if they had a three strike rule before they'd give up on me, or if they were just intent on being one of the most annoying companies on the planet. He said they just wanted to make sure I was happy with my purchase, so I said to stop calling and I'd be happy.

Cliffnotes for the lazy:

1 - Bought a card at CC online
2 - Two months later they call offering warranties
3 - I say no...multiple times
4 - They keep calling
5 - I once again stop shopping at CC

Weird. I've never had that happen.

I googled the number on my CID, just to make sure it belonged to them and not somebody trying to be funny with the CID info, and sure enough I found a few sites with people complaining about the same thing happening. Like I said I haven't shopped there in years, up until about a month and a half ago, so I wouldn't know if this is a new thing or not.

You didn't say the magic words, "please put me on your DO NOT CALL LIST".

Since you didn't do that, you really have nothing to complain about. 😉

Actually I'm on the National DNC list, which applies to this situation, at least the two times after the first. I can let the first one go, since I did do business with them, and they were trying to follow up on it. But after telling them I wasn't interested, I'm no longer conducting business with them and at that point they're just telemarketers. Like I said, they're just a bit aways from me, if they keep it up I'll go visit them on my day off and hassle someone unimportant 🙂

National DNC list means jack all. You have to tell the company calling you to put you on their DNC list.

In reality, CC isn't losing too much by you not being a customer anymore. 😉

Oh I know, I feel the same way about idiots who come into my store looking for $.89 parts and expecting me to spend hours explaining everything about it to them. I tell them no, and if they leave too bad.

On the other hand, if a company treats me right, I tend to spend money there, even if they're not the cheapest. Go ask Newegg. I've spent GOBS there over the past few years, at last count in the $30K range for various jobs and personal use. They take care of me so I keep going back. CC would be getting some of that business except for the fact that I can't stand them.

I think one of the provisions of the DNC list is that it doesn't apply for 18 months if you do business with a company. CC can call you for marketing purposes during that period. Your business transaction constitutes your permission to do this.

oh man thats why I quit working at Circuit City after 2 years. my first year it wasnt bad becuase I was working the music/movies/games section so pitching extended warranties were few and far between - occasionally we'd pitch one on an xbox or mp3 player or something, but not often, most of the time we were stocking cd's, and adjusting the stores shelving according to the new plans

but my second year I was working in digital cameras/camcorders and its the biggest pain in the ass having to pitch a grossly expensive warranty to someone who obviously has no intentions of buying it, yet you have to because you're judged on a daily basis in dollar value of extended warranties you sell - i couldnt stand it, i put up with it for a while but after that I was gone

Wrong.

They can call you if you've done business with them in the last xx years. Which you have. You need to say the magic words, then problem solved.
