It's funny, the Macs were all old by the time we got them, but there was definitely a hierarchy in terms of the Macs in school. You learned to type on the ancient Mac 128Ks, but you programmed on more powerful Mac LCs... and of course, in the school library color Macs like the Performas were the dream.

It's funny to think that the audio chipset in your phone today is probably more powerful than any of those computers were.

Didn't have Macs until I got to high school, until then the schools all had Apple IIe.
Typing was a prerequisite for computer class, and took place on actual typewriters.

We had II gs's in grade school, the B&W macs in junior high and eventually small color macs, and the big color macs in senior high.
We never used typewriters. we all learned typing on some sort of computer or word processor. The 80's were a fun time.
and of course every machine had Number Crunchers and Oregon Trail.

We had one classroom in junior high with IIe's. It was run by an old school math teacher. To her credit she would let me and a couple other people use them during our study hall. If we or the machine made a peep she would flash us a dirty look.

In high school an accounting teacher had PC's in her room but all she knew was word processing. My senior year I needed one English credit to graduate. I signed up for 4 different computer classes but none were really offered once school started. Such is life in rural WV in the mid to late 80's.
