I released an animal from my neighbors trap.

I have a problem with possums eating my cat's food. So they are kill on sight for me. I've used traps, but the possums got wise to it after enough of their kind were caught. I use a Walther P22 w/ an SWR suppressor to kill them. One shot to the head. Killing them with a BB gun is inhumane.

I don't know how big an asshole this guy is or what, but I don't really see how he would be pissed at you. He was trying to catch stray cats, and if his diseased possum story was actually true he would have also let this one go.

Messing with somebody elses traps is a crime. No matter how altruistic you think you're being it's a serious crime.

Yea, so what? It wouldn't be the first crime I've broken over the years. I'd have taken the guys trap in addition to releasing the possum. Diseased possum my ass. I wonder where he got his veterinary qualifications from...

You should hook up with bloodugly. Opossums are great for keeping the stray/feral kitten population in check...

Cite sources? My guess is that the neighbor is already in violation of the law by having traps in a suburban area without a license.

I've got a possum that visits me every night around 1am. I'll hear him crunch around in the leaves, and a lot of the time I'll turn on the light to look at it. Sometimes he'll come right up to the screen to check me out, then he goes on about his business.

depends on the type of trap.

I live near a bay, and if you touch another persons crab pots you can get into huge trouble. Touch a commercial crab pot and you could get shot (no joke)

In most places you can trap on your property without a license. And messing with someone trap is a crime. has been for decades.

but then its been years since i have been hunting.

Still have the house in Colleyville, but I live at Fort Polk, Louisiana now. It's nice to have a nice house to go back to on leave and on long weekends, at least.

The only thing different I would of done is bring them somewhere else so they don't end up back in the danger of that neighboor. I would also replace the possum with a very pissed off bobcat.

My yorkie cornered a possum in the fence and was going crazy so I went out to see what was going on.

That little sucker was laying on the ground playing dead. His mouth was hanging open with his big old nasty teeth showing and his tongue hanging out. My dog was nearly stepping on him and he didnt finch. He looked dead as hell.

I plopped a 5 gal bucket on him, slid the lid under it, sealed it and put holes on it. Animal control picked it up on my driveway the next day.

Ugly little bastards.
