Heh, I got in on the beta, they haven't even charged me yet.

Unlimited everything for $19/month, all it does is hop on WiFi when you're able to and uses VOIP, uses Sprint when you're not around WFi.

The phone is crap, but it works.

Ah ok. See I couldn't quite figure out if they actually had a cell plan. They talk about hybrid calling and cell usage index but they never made it really clear that you could use it on cell networks (and I gather if your cell usage is too high they will eventually drop you from the program though they go to great lengths to avoid saying that directly).

we have smartphones on the cheap using pageplus prepaid. we've spent about $180 dollars total on cell service in 2011. rarely use the phones at home with the tablet and carry about an eris as the video player for the kids.

I don't have a smart phone. If I'm carrying my phone that means I'm going somewhere and doing something. I won't really have the time to do stuff with my phone besides being interrupted by an occasional phone call.

I have a POS Samsung Reclaim w/ Sprint. AFAIK, it is a "smartphone", but all of those features are disabled, including texting. My wife has one too. Combined, we pay $40/mo including taxes for our shared calling plan (wife gets a generous discount through work). Amazingly, it carries VOICE communication (not text or data) anywhere we need to go. So, if one of us has a real need to tell the other something, we can, but we're also not hooked on staring at the screen like slackjawed, drooling idiots.

It's all I'll ever need.

Also, I absolutely hate what these things are doing to our society. Every time I leave home or the office, I see hundreds of lemmings with their faces buried in one of these things. They cannot even have a conversation face to face anymore - they'd rather text from 5 feet away. And how about those GD commercials? "that was so 12 seconds ago" - I dont ever know which company that is, but that crap makes me welcome the apocalypse with open arms. If that's what we've become, then time to start over.

I didn't have one for a while but the new company I work for requires I have a phone that gets email and is willing to pay up to $125 a month of my cell phone bill so my new smart phone actually works out to be less a month than my old phone :D

The ironic thing?
That pic was obviously taken with a cell phone and was probably uploaded via cellular network.

...and that pic doesn't bother me at all. I'd rather see that than be forced to hear their insipid "conversation."

Yeah I remember the days when people could only talk on phones. Most of the conversations were stupid and utterly pointless. It amazed me people would pay good money just to have the same dumbass conversations they had face to face, and they were a waste of oxygen anyway.

I pretty much just assume that what goes on with texts is the exact same pointless nonsense they would be speaking to each other anyway. Its all gabbing and gossiping, just another medium to do it through. Thats not necessarily a good thing or a bad thing by itself. People will always yak like idiots, does it really matter how?

I have a Galaxy Nexus, and I'm posting this while sitting on a toilet at work. Smartphones: the new newspaper.

Friend of mine wouldn't let someone in his house with a smartphone, if you take a call on your cell phone, he'd probably kick you out. He has a facebook account, but his computer's in his closet, not plugged it. He checks his facebook at the local library on occasion. He does not have a cell phone.

I don't have data on my cell phone, I suppose it supports it (used to) but I don't use it. I have pay as you go cell and it's costing me $30/year, period.

Your friend needs meds.

Love my Droid X. It's so damn useful. GPS anywhere so if I get lost or in traffic, I can reroute easily, or if I'm in the city with no idea where to go, can look up a quick restaraunt and get turn by turn directions.

Can look up opening and closing times and phone numbers in seconds, once forgot to bring a document with me, so I just loaded up my email and downloaded it and showed the clerk the document and he accepted it. I can also look up train times easily and have an entire schedule that updates in real time.

Also been streaming music because I don't have an MP3 that can hold my music collection.

I don't see why some people have such an aversion to phones, the sheer convenience to having almost everything available at the palm of your hands is amazing.

I don't have facebook nor do I have a texting plan. I use it for productivity, and if people can't see that, I don't really know what to say except to stop being such a luddite.

I see people looking at their smartphones a lot too, but before then, they would just be staring off into the distance waiting for whatever it is they are waiting for (in a line, on the train, etc.).

I have a smartphone because I like the many uses they have. I completely understand people not liking them, but trying to act like you're better than them because you only have a dumb phone is as stupid as people who do the opposite.

I think smartphones are super cool gadgets but I just do NOT want one. All I need is a small phone that can do calls, texts, and has a camera. Sadly, I think these kinds of phones are disappearing...

Thats a good point. I am less hateful of long wait times now that I can use my phone to entertain myself

You don't get it do you? I AM OP btw, I want to have a smart phone dont mind sending some money upfont but not $60 extra per month. $360 = $15 a month. So by doing so I save atleast $45 a month and still look kewl!

I got in also and gave the phone to my mom for Christmas as her first smartphone. She had a $39 AT&T flip phone and didn't want to pay for the smartphone data plans. This was perfect for her.

It works on her AT&T DSL even though she is on the slowest DSL tier.
