Today I completed one of my life dreams - to become a private pilot! It took a bit longer then expected, and im in debt a bit now because of it, but it is well worth it. Im ecstatic about it - I've always wanted to do this. I'm going to continue on with my training and go for instrument and multi engine ratings, hopefully to eventually get commercial. I wrote a little about it in my flight blog (see sig). Just thought i'd share the news with everyone!

Wow that is really kickass. It is something I've considered doing myself but the cost is pretty damn high.

I considered taking the applied flight degree at a college here (4 year program) but my neighbor flies for Air Canada (big planes too...100-200 passenger size) and says its not worth it... the pay and that suck he claims plus it takes yeaaaars to work your way up to the bigger stuff.

I'd love to get a pilots license to fly for hobby though if I ever get enough money to kick around.

congratulations WannaFly!!! welcome to the club :) you must have a great feeling of accomplishment, I know I did. I can't believe you only had a half hour oral, you got off easy dude!!! :) I'm sure you did well on your written tho so the DE probably didn't have much to pick on.

how much $$$ did your training come to? how many hours do you have?

if I may make a suggestion, get your 50-hour cross-country requirement out of the way before you start your instrument training (note that student XC time w/your instructor doesn't count b/c you aren't PIC). I didn't do this so I will have to delay my instrument checkride by a month in order to get them in. next week is my 250 mile IFR cross country to fulfill the long XC requirement, it will take all day.

Yah, its a great feeling. I did well on the written but in that 20 minutes it was ALOT of questions, i just kept answering them right away. We covered alot.

All together my rating cost me about $9K :(:Q:thumbsdown::evil: but I was flying new models cessna 172SP's at a nice flight school that had great instructors and maintenance. I have about 75 hours total - took me a bit longer because i took a couple 2 month breaks.

As too the IFR sugesstion, thanks - I've heard that before. I might end up getting my multi engine first because I can build cheap IFR/multi time in a friends plane. Good luck with your IFR x/c!

Technically I dont have a callsign since I rent planes and it could be and of the tail numbers of about 15 different planes

Congratulations! Piloting a plane was always, for me, one of the highest of natural highs. Hopefully you get tremendous joy from it also.
