I rebooted my Windows XP machine and now it will not go further than the "Windows is starting up..." screen.

I have tried a Safe mode and it still stops at the same place.

Any help would be appreciated.

TIA

If you're trying to overclock, lower your FSB, or raise your vcore. If not, either you need a new psu, or a new motherboard. Of course, details always help.

The system is not overclocked. I put it together two to three years ago and it had been running without a problem. I have not made any changes to it that could cause this problem.

Details:

MB: Epox 9NA ultra or deluxe motherboard. It has been long enough that I am not sure about the model.
cpu: AMD 64 3500+
RAM: 1 gig

How long has it been since you cleaned your heatsink and fan? You're probably overheating. If that isn't the problem, you need a new power supply.

Boot from the XP CD and go to the recovery console. Use the command fixboot, no go? try bootcfg /rebuild. Post back if it doesn't help.

Certainly not. It "writes a new partition boot sector to the system partition"

fixmbr "Repairs the master boot record of the boot disk"

Actually you shouldn't need the bootcfg /rebuild since it lists the window installs and give you the option to add.

I ran fixboot c: and now my systems stops at the Microsoft Windows xp Professional screen.

The blues dots in the box below "Professional" are moving.

If you have a broadband internet connection, try disconnecting the cable, and reboot. Then leave it be for 5-10mins and see if it'll make it to windows. You may want to run chkdsk /r/f from the RC too.

BTW, you are fairly certain that you couldn't have a trojan, ect. right?

There is something in your boot cycle, i.e., in loading Windows, that is causing a problem. Your system is looking for something it cannot find or is corrupted. You might be able to I.D. it using the boot log.

I had that happen before when a secondary hard drive went bad. Disconnect all but your primary drive. And if that doesn't work, then pull out all but one RAM dimm.
