I really want to get out and play sports more

A lot of time there will be leagues through work. A lot of time there are leagues through school or church. Any established organization is a good place to start. However, you mentioned you do not like people. You may have to change that attitude to get invited on some sports teams. After high school, they are typically word of mouth and you have to know someone in order to be invited.

Used hockey gear isn't a TERRIBLE idea. Sure, it smells when it is used, but places like Play It Again Sports clean it before they sell it 😛

I don't buy used equipment but I would recommend it to someone who is just looking to try out hockey.

Anyhoo... thank God for sports 🙂

Just about every sports club that has racquetball courts should have a mens racquetball league. That sport will run you ragged.

If you are interested in playing ultimate, there appears to be a Tuscon-based organization. Looks rather young, so don't expect the quality or number of players to be as high as organizations like BUDA (Boston) or PADA (Philly).

It is true that people around you do not find the same interest on the activities you would prefer. I kind of felt same way so I was also searching from the local club where I can find people who can share same interests! 🙂

I had to do this when I first moved to Tempe a few years ago and remember it being very easy. I signed up for the local adult leagues as a single and was used to fill out rosters for softball, soccer, flag football, etc. After 2 years I was on a team that stayed together until I left. You have to make an effort but, in my experience, it was not that hard and I met tons of people that way.

As for it being expensive, I spent more on beers after the game than I did on the whole league so that's not true.
