I REALLY want a Android Tablet to work for me !

Subject says it all - I would really like the Moto Xoom or the Samsung 7.0 Plus to work for me. In going after the entry level 16GB iPad 2, I'm essentially out $529 after tax.

I can get a Moto Xoom or the Samsung 7.0 plus from Amazon for significantly cheaper. Why do I want cheap?

Because all I want to do on my tablet is read Zinio magazines and stream content (mostly HBO Go). I enjoy the USA Today app on the weekends over my morning cup of coffee. Aside from all that and surfing the web, everything else I can do on a iPad is somewhat redundant to my iPhone.

I have found applications for Android tablets to be found wanting... and its a shame because I really like the hardware from Moto and Samsung. I like the attractive pricing. Its a shame I can't see beyond the headaches of getting things to work properly, if at all. Doing a search for the aforementioned HBO Go shows more pain than success.

Anybody find a Android Tablet to be a reasonable replacement for a iPad?

If you're getting an Android tablet, the Transformer 2 is set to come out early November. It has a quad core cpu, less than 9mm thin, and it should get ICS fairly quickly if not ship with it.

I haven't tried this, but wouldn't it be possible to use HBO GO straight up through the web, rather than via the app?

You have to use Dolphin HD, and set it to run in Desktop mode or some such thing. Supposedly it will work, but I've read navigation is horrendous and the output is poor/laggy/etc. Independent of network connectivity/speed.

From what I've read anyway. Haven't found to many 'It works awesome I'm so happy !', that's for sure.

You are already in the ecosystem. Wait til the Transformer 2 is out, if you don't like that one, get the ipad2.

Apps are the one thing that bothers me about my Transformer. I've been waiting for a damn HBO Go app for awhile. I love the tablet, but I'm tempted to just sell it and go iPad because it has apps that actually do what I want to do. Maybe the Android tablets will get them eventually, but that sure doesn't help me right now.

This is what I'm talking about !!!

HBO go has been available for Android since April 29th???
As far as Tablets, since it's device specific apparently, someone here http://www.transformerforums.com/forum/asus-transformer-apps/353-hbo-go-app-android-tablets.html got it working on their Transformer.

So that. Further down in that post I found this:

The fact that the HBO GO app is incompatible with the TF is probably still my biggest gripe with this tab. Trying to watch GO via any of the browsers is spotty at best. I've literally tried every browser, all recommended settings, and mostly it works so poorly as to be basically unwatchable. Sad that I have a basically good experience via 3g on my Droid X or Droid X2 with HBO GO but cant watch it on my TF with much faster wifi connection. Also sad that hbo doesnt seem too concerned about supporting Honeycomb devices.

Which is pretty much what I was complaining about above. Oh well, I really want to like a Android tablet - I suppose I'm in common water at least as far as I intend to use it.
