I really pity the game testers for GTA III (or VC)

That stuff must be hard to test. Just imagine how huge the map is in Grand Theft Auto III or VC and think of how many possible places there are to go and how many things you can interact with. All those game testers had to go to every single place, interact with every single object, bump into every pedestrian, steal every single car, ditch every car, cause all sorts of creative accidents and the list goes on. That has got to be some boooooooring stuff.

and get paid to do it all.

life must be SSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOO rough for them. I'll take over if they don't want to do it and get bored.

The companies have paid testers for that. Unfortunately those game "paid testers" do not play the game as you or I would, instead, they try doing the stupidest things, like driving the car straight into a wall, or getting the bazooka and shooting it at the subway.

Thats how I play. I never follow the missions or anything. I let my friends beat the game and unlock the islands, then I drive around and blow sh-t up...

Pity them? Fvck, I pity the people who bought the game. Apparently the testers didn't do their jobs very well.

Are you talking about the PC port of GTA3?

Yeah that could have been made a little better.

However, the PS2 versions of GTA3 and Vice City or two of the best games ever made for that console.

And hopefully they're gonna learn form their mistakes and release a smooth running verson
of Vice City on the PC

PC. Not just the incompatibilities across different platforms, but just the game in general is very bug ridden. For a game that put Rockstar on the map for the PS2, they could have spent more time on the PC version instead of rushing it out there and releasing a lame @$$ patch 6 months later.

I've been a games tester.....it's fun at first, paid to play a game. After a while however it gets boring and repetitive testing the same sort of stuff on different builds, and worst of all it ruins your appetite for a game if it's one you've been wanting to play.

That's the only way to play the GTA games IMHO; games like and/or similar to MGS2 require[/i] you to finish the story 🙂

I beta-tested flight sims for a couple of years.

I have no intention of ever doing it again. The "fun" factor wears out very damn quickly.

Heey, that's the stuff I do...

Being a tester. Its 8 to 12 hours(sometimes more), of playing the same thing OVER AND OVER AND OVER again.

In some cases you may be testing the same level for the whole day. Testing games is not fun. Is it better than other jobs, yeah, but it isnt fun, except your work for a video game company and most video game companies are laid back and do alot of fun stuff on occasion, but the work is not fun.

Word.

The game rules I have had no problems.

I read about a game tester for Madden 2001 who kept trying to bounce an extra point attempt off the goal post and then catching the ball. After hours of trying, he finally succeeded. The game locked up.

A buddy of mine used to test GTAII at Rockstar's Canadian HQ. He HATED it. He could go on forever and ever telling me how much he hated his job while he was testing. It sounded nightmarish.

heh

most game testers end up hating it

they make 7.5/hr and they don't actually "play" the game

they think of every stupid thing that the general populus would do (like run into a wall at 100mph++) and see if any bugs happen

their job is to find bugs and stuff, not to "play" the game
